DescriptionThe Edgemont Union Free School District seeks a collaborative, motivated, and highly-qualified candidate for a full-time bookkeeper position. Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent for Administration and Business, the bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining and operating a set of general books of accounts, including subsidiary ledgers, in accordance with prescribed accounting standards, using an automated financial software package (nVision). The bookkeeper: Prepares, classifies, and records all cash receipts for all funds. Monitors appropriation and revenue status reports.Recommends and records budget transfers. Prepares monthly cash flow reports. Overseas and administers District Federal Grants.Originates cash transfers to cover payroll and accounts payable payments. Maintains bond register. Prepares sales tax reports for payment quarterly. Prepares and reconciles monthly milk reports for NYS. Reconciles invoices for the District’s food service provider with weekly cash reports and reviews monthly statements. Prepares and checks month-end reports for all funds. Monitors and prepares wire transfers for all bond payments.Assists with preparing all state-required financial reports (ST-3, ESSA, etc.) Assists with overseeing all reserves and fund balance projections. Monitors and records state aid payments.Reviews cash disbursements to resolve outstanding checks. Reconciles and closes all funds for annual audit. Prepares all financial records for annual audit. Implements internal and external audit recommendations. Records journal entries as needed. Posts encumbrances, receipts, budget transfers, and journal entries monthly. Reconciles Federal and FICA taxes and submits 941 quarterly reports.Enters all new employees into nVision, including salary information from Board resolutions. Required SkillsGood knowledge of principles and practices used in single and double-entry bookkeeping; some knowledge of accounting theory and methods; thorough knowledge of modern methods used in keeping and checking financial records and reports; good knowledge of office terminology, equipment, practices, and procedures; ability to make arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; ability to write legibly; ability to get along well with others; ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential duties of the position; ability to use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail, and database software; clerical aptitude; mental alertness; good judgment; a high degree of accuracy; neatness; integrity; tact; courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.QualificationsGraduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year of financial record-keeping experience, which must have involved using automated financial management systems to use and maintain double-entry accounting systems. (Satisfactory completion of 30 college credits, including a minimum of six credits in Accounting, may be substituted for the one (1) year of work experience described above. )Transfer candidates are welcome and encouraged. Candidate must either hold a Bookkeeper title under Westchester County Civil Service or meet the above standard and be willing to take the next test offered by the County (no test date currently scheduled). Accounting/bookkeeping work in a NYS public school district is preferred but not required.
