Description:Distinguishing Features of the Successful CandidateUnder the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Schools, an incumbent for this position provides vision to define and ensure implementation of a well-coordinated curriculum for grades K through 12, both long and short term goals.The incumbent will be responsible for working closely with teachers and building leadership, providing assistance on the assessment and analysis of student performance, curriculum development, professional development, and instructional improvement, developing responses to identified needs and incorporating processes for continuous quality review and improvement for all learners across the continuum.Primary Responsibilities of the Position: Must be knowledgeable about New York State graduation requirements.Must be capable of leading an instructional team, and have a complete understanding of instructional programs from early childhood to secondary.Be able to articulate a commitment to supporting instructional programs that set high expectations for all students including those that are differently abled as well as teachers.Assist in the formulation and articulation of a philosophy and objectives for the instructional program. Guides development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and instructional services.Assist in the development and coordination of budgetary needs that pertain to curriculum and instruction, including teaching materials and assessment instruments.Keeps abreast of developments and curriculum and instruction and furnishes leadership in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the district's educational program.Assists in the recruitment, screening, hiring, training, and aligning of instructional personnel Works with the district and building administrators in the improvement of curriculum and instruction and student outcomesCommunicates the approved curriculum to the professional staff and public and maintains a record of approved instructional materials.Works with principals and teacher committees in organizing and coordinating grade level, and departmental meetings, in order to affect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional program throughout the district. Encourages the development, publication, and use of new instructional materials by the professional staff.Provide staff leadership to ensure understanding of and promote the educational objectives of the district and plans and administers programs of professional development activities for instructional personnel.Evaluates and reviews the performance of instructional leaders throughout the district.Observes and evaluates teachers in their classrooms upon request of the principal and/or Superintendent and offers insight for the enhancement of teaching and learning outcomes.Directly supervises the work of all instructional staff including consultants.Oversees the district wide testing program, and/or evaluative measures used by the schools.Studies and evaluates, and as appropriate, recommends adoption of new instructional material, methods, and programs.Assist with the budget preparation for newly approved instructional programs as related to instructional supplies, equipment, and materials.Assumes a leadership role in developing curriculum for any course newly mandated by the legislation or the board Coordinates all formal efforts of the professional staff, and projects of curriculum improvement.Recommends the addition of new courses, grade placement courses, and graduation requirements.Provides guidance for the development of educational specifications related to new construction.Interprets the curriculum and its philosophy to the board, the administration, the staff, and the general public.Participates in the work of state and national curriculum association and study groups.Directs the planning and implementation of the system wide testing program.Assumes responsibility in the oversight for the accuracy, validity, and interpretation of results from the testing program.Supervises the maintenance of student records and reports.Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Superintendent Minimum Qualifications: SDA, SDL, New York State administrator certificationMinimum of five years of building level supervisory experienceDemonstrated expertise and knowledge of curriculum and instructionDemonstrated experience with special education programsDemonstrated experience with technology programsBe an experienced evaluator and familiarity with the NYSUT Teacher Practice RubricDistrict-Level experience is requiredPrevious applicants need not apply
