Leave Replacement School CounselorGrade 8Position Purpose: Under the general supervision of the Principal, the School Counselor will provide comprehensive counseling services to middle school students, supporting their social, emotional, academic, and developmental needs. The counselor will work collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and instructional staff to address social concerns, foster positive peer relationships, and promote student well-being.Essential Performance ResponsibilitiesSupports middle school students in understanding their strengths, needs, and interests through the review and interpretation of relevant student data, and assists students in developing age-appropriate academic, personal, and educational goals.Assists students in making informed course and subject selections in collaboration with families and staff, with attention to students' developmental, social, and academic needs.Participates in the scheduling of classes and supports related counseling and programming processes.Collaborates with administrators, teachers, support staff, and related service providers to identify and address individual student needs, including social-emotional concerns and the needs of students with disabilities.Supports the registration, orientation, and transition of students who are new to the school, helping them and their families understand school procedures, expectations, and available support.Maintains accurate and confidential student records and communicates appropriate student information to parents, teachers, and administrators in accordance with district practices and legal requirements.Encourages family engagement and maintains ongoing communication with parents and guardians to support students' social, emotional, and academic growth.Works collaboratively with instructional teams to address student academic, social, and behavioral concerns, and facilitates meetings with parents and guardians to support problem-solving, communication, and coordinated student interventions.Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of pre/post high school program eligibility requirements.Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.Ability to organize and coordinate work.Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.EducationBachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignments.Masters Degree preferred.Experience: Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.FLSA Status: Exempt Salary: Salary range in accordance with the Eastchester Teachers Association (ETA) negotiated salary schedule; $62,620 - $79,759, 1/200th of step placement contingent upon prior related experience. *Fingerprint Clearance: SAVE Law: Effective July 1, 2001, Education Law ยงยง305(30), 3004-b, 3004-c and 3035, as amended by Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and Part 87 of the Commissioner's Regulations require the Commissioner of Education to request a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check for applicants for certification as well as for prospective employees of school districts, charter schools and boards of cooperative educational services (BOCES).
