Immediate VacancyMaintenance Mechanic (Buildings), ProbationaryDistrict Wide2023-2024There is an immediate vacancy for a district wide Maintenance Mechanic (Buildings). The incumbent will perform a wide variety of skilled work in the repair, maintenance and servicing of school district buildings and facilities, both independently and with a crew.Responsibilities:Monitor and perform repairs and replacement of HVAC equipment (including central and free standing air conditioning);Repair of plumbing issues, including water fountains and use of drain cleaning equipment;Minor electrical repairs (plugs, switches and lights);Solder and repair pipes and sheet metal as needed;Work with the Maintenance Department to ensure a safe environment, both inside and outside of buildings;Work on grounds/fields as needed for proper field play of all sports and gym classes, including cutting grass and snow removal, and complete relevant work orders as needed;Continue and adjust preventative maintenance program for domestic water and HVAC systems;Perform routine electrical maintenance, including replacing fixtures, receptacles;Use computer applications such as Qware work order programs, Google Docs/Sheets and/or Microsoft Excel/Word, and Gmail in performing work assignments;May be assigned to other duties as required by the Superintendent or representative.Qualifications:Good knowledge of:the tools, techniques and terminology of building trades (HVAC, electrical, plumbing);accident and safety precautions which apply to building trades;Ability to:effectively and safely use tools to perform maintenance and repair work;work from sketches and blueprints; follow written and oral instructions;get along well with others;read, write, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential functions of the position;Resourcefulness in work performance;Initiative in completing assigned work;Reliability;Physical strength and agility; physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.Prerequisites:Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years of experience in building and mechanical installation, maintenance or repair work.Substitutions:An Associate’s Degree in Applied Science or possession of a certificate from a post-secondary vocational school in building or mechanical trades may be substituted for two (2) years of the work experience described above. NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, only experience gainedafter attaining the minimum education level indicated in the minimum qualifications will be considered in evaluating experience.Employment Terms:Type: 12 month probationary position.Hours: Monday – Friday or as required, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM (days/times subject to change)Salary and Benefits: Salary range $57,191-$81,223; Benefits covered by the CSEA contract.*Fingerprint Clearance: SAVE Law: Effective July 1, 2001, Education Law §§305(30), 3004-b, 3004-c and 3035, as amended by Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and Part 87 of the Commissioner's Regulations require the Commissioner of Education to request afingerprint-supported criminal history background check for applicants for certification as well as for prospective employees of school districts, charter schools and boards of cooperative educational services (BOCES).
