The Dobbs Ferry School District seeks a Literacy Coach at Springhurst Elementary School. This is a full-time, tenure track position effective August 28, 2024.Position Description: The literacy coach is a non-administrative position and works under the terms and conditions of the Dobbs Ferry United Teachers Collective Bargaining Agreement. The coach ensures that students receive high-quality literacy instruction based on the Bookworms reading and writing program; provides opportunities for the development and instructional improvement for teachers via training, observations, model lessons, feedback conversations, and data analysis; and provides support on the development of modifications and accommodations for students with disabilities. Reports to: School Principal Scope of Responsibility: The literacy coach will:Provide high-quality professional development around effective literacy practices and the foundations of readingProvide feedback, engage in one-on-one coaching, and model best practicesIdentify where high-quality curricula built-in supports are not being maximizedModel and teach new quality literacy intervention activitiesCoach teachers on using high-quality, evidence-based assessments to determine the most effective interventions requiredCoordinate and implement high-quality reading program (Bookworms, Fundations, and Heggerty) Facilitate professional development for teachers Observe teachers, provide feedback, and identify next steps to improve instruction in core ELA instruction for the purpose of support and not evaluation Monitor and coordinate interventions conducted by the classroom teacher Model and teach exemplar lessons Support lesson preparation using high-quality curriculum Model and support high-quality interactions with students Analyze data, identify trends, and support teachers to adjust instruction based on data Support teachers with effective parent communication and family involvement Communicate a belief in all students’ abilities to become successful readers Attend all required meetings and trainings Communicate with leadership team on school-wide literacy progress Other duties as assigned by the building principal or assistant principal Skills and Qualifications: Successful candidates will be:Highly knowledgeable in evidence-based methods for teaching reading,Detail-oriented with a record of consistent task completion,An independent self-starter who demonstrates an unwavering commitment to raising student achievement, and A high performer challenging situations Desirable Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a certified K - 5 ELA teacher Knowledge of and experience with Bookworms approach to teaching reading and writing Proven results when working with struggling readers Strong knowledge of how children learn to read Requirements: NYSED Certification Childhood Education 1-6Compensation: Commensurate with experience and on par with the DFUT contract.Application: Apply via OLAS by 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2024.The Dobbs Ferry School District is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate against race, religion, ethnicity, age, gender and disability in the educational programs and activities it operates The selected applicant will be subject to a fingerprint supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE legislation effective July 1, 2001.
