Job Title: Junior-Senior High School CounselorPosition Overview:The Cato-Meridian School District is looking to hire a School Counselor. As a School Counselor, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of students. You will work collaboratively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents to create a nurturing and supportive environment that fosters student success and well-being. This position requires a deep understanding of adolescent development, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to promoting a positive school culture.Key Responsibilities:Individual Counseling: Provide individual counseling to students dealing with academic, social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. Conduct assessments, develop action plans, and implement interventions to support student growth and development.Group Counseling: Facilitate small group counseling sessions on topics related to skill building for students.Classroom Guidance: Deliver classroom lessons on topics relevant to students, including academic success, career exploration, decision-making skills, and personal development. Collaborate with teachers to integrate social-emotional learning into the curriculum.Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate support and intervention during crises or emergencies affecting students, such as incidents of bullying, grief and loss, or mental health concerns. Work closely with school administrators and outside agencies as needed.Collaboration and Consultation: Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to address student needs and develop strategies for intervention and support. Serve as a resource and consultant regarding student behavior, mental health issues, and community resources.Parent and Family Engagement: Establish positive relationships with parents and families through regular communication, workshops, events focused on parenting skills, and adolescent developmentData Analysis: Collect, participate, and collaborate with data analysis teams to best support student success. Qualifications:Master's degree in School Counseling State certification or licensure as a school counselor.Previous experience working with school student’s preferred.Strong understanding of adolescent development.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and school staff.Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.Knowledge of relevant laws, policies, and ethical guidelines related to school counseling.Proficiency in utilizing technology for counseling and data management purposes.Note: This job description is intended to convey information essential to understanding the scope of the position and is not exhaustive.
