The Central Islip School District is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of K–6 General Music Teacher . The successful candidate will foster student growth in music appreciation, creativity, performance, and musical understanding through engaging, inclusive, and standards-based general music instruction. This position serves two elementary schools within the Central Islip School District and is a General Music-only assignment, with no ensemble or concert responsibilities . Spanish-speaking candidates and candidates with strong piano/accompaniment skills are preferred. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Preparing and teaching engaging K–6 General Music lessons in collaboration with music department colleagues Incorporating singing, movement, listening, music literacy, creativity, and performance-based experiences Utilizing classroom instruments, including Orff instruments, recorders, ukuleles, and related general music resources Supporting student growth in music appreciation, musical expression, and creativity Collaborating with building and department colleagues to support a positive school and music department culture Demonstrating strong classroom management, organization, and communication skills Strong Candidates Will: Have a background in Orff-based instruction and ukulele Think creatively and incorporate innovative instructional strategies Inspire and engage students of all backgrounds in the general music classroom Demonstrate strong piano/accompaniment skills Understand and apply the New York State Arts Standards Collaborate effectively with department and building colleagues Balance priorities while remaining prepared, organized, and student-centered Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish Qualifications: Current New York State Music K–12 Certification required.
