Job Overview: The Charter School of Educational Excellence seeks a dedicated and knowledgeable Special Education Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality, differentiated instruction, develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and collaborate with staff and families to ensure student success in a rigorous academic environment. Compensation & Benefits: Salary based on education and teaching experience. Annual salary range: $66,730 - $90,450. Health insurance, participating school in the New York State Teacher Retirement System (NYSTRS), paid leave, Professional Development, and assigned parking space. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required ; Master’s degree in Special Education or related field preferred Valid NYS Special Education Teacher Certification (Grades 7-12) required At least 2 years of certified teaching experience Knowledge of NYS learning standards, IDEA, and special education compliance requirements. Experience working with high school students with disabilities preferred Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Demonstrate strong proficiency in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics to effectively teach and support high school students, ensuring clear instruction, subject mastery, and the ability to adapt lessons to diverse learning needs. Passion for working with diverse student populations and supporting the school’s mission and vision. Preferred Skills & Attributes Experience with co-teaching models and inclusion classrooms. Strong problem-solving skills and flexibility. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum Deliver differentiated instruction aligned to New York State Learning Standards. Adapt curriculum and instructional materials to meet the individualized needs of students with disabilities. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including co-teaching models, small group instruction, and individualized support. Integrate technology and evidence-based practices to enhance student learning. IEP Development & Compliance Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with NYS and federal regulations. Track student progress toward IEP goals and maintain accurate documentation. Prepare for and participate in IEP meetings, annual reviews, and reevaluations. Ensure all timelines and legal requirements are met in accordance with IDEA and NYSED guidelines. Collaboration Work closely with general education teachers to support inclusive practices and co-teaching. Collaborate with related service providers (e.g., speech therapists, counselors, psychologists). Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs. Participate in team meetings, professional learning communities (PLCs), and staff development Classroom Environment & Management Establish a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment. Implement positive behavior supports and interventions. Promote social-emotional development and self-advocacy skills among students. Assessment & Data Use Administer formal and informal assessments to guide instruction. Analyze student performance data to inform instructional decisions. Prepare students for state and school-based assessments with appropriate accommodations. Other duties as assigned. Work Environment: The position involves providing instruction in a resource room setting with additional push-in support within general education classrooms. Ability to sit, stand, and move around the classroom for extended periods of time to effectively support instruction and student engagement. Capable of performing light physical tasks, including rearranging the resource room and moving classroom furniture (e.g., chairs and student desks), weighing up to 15 pounds. Teachers often supervise students beyond the classroom (hallways and school events) as part of their routine duties and are expected to maintain a safe and orderly environment in all school settings and to follow all school safety protocols and procedures.
