Position SummaryThe Chief Executive Officer (CEO) serves as the educational and operational leader of the Charter School of Educational Excellence. The CEO is responsible for the effective administration of all academic and operational functions of the school in alignment with CSEE’s mission and charter, New York State Education Department (NYSED) regulations, and best practices in public charter school leadership. The Chief Executive Officer will work collaboratively with the Board of Trustees, Principals, staff, families and community partners to foster a culture of excellence and innovation. The ideal candidate is dynamic, visionary, and results-driven leader with a deep understanding of charter school governance, New York State educational requirements, and school improvement practices. Preferred ExperienceExperience leading a high-performing charter school in New York State.Experience with state charter renewal, accountability reporting, and NYSED oversight.Experience supporting or leading a National Blue Ribbon School is a plus.Familiarity with replicating or scaling successful charter models is also advantageous. Key Responsibilities Leadership and VisionDevelop and communicate a strategic vision aligned with the school’s charter goals and benchmarks.Lead the implementation of long and short-term goals for instructional improvement and operational effectiveness.Promote culture of Excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement in all aspects of the school’s programs and operations.Serve as the official liaison to the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and ensure compliance with all charter and state regulatory requirements.Conduct regular meetings with school leaders and central office staff to monitor progress and address challenges. Board RelationsServes as the chief liaison between the Board of Trustees and the school’s leadership team.Attend and actively participate in all board meeting and planning retreats.Implement board policies and provide regular updates on school performance, strategic initiatives, and financial health.Prepare and present well-documented recommendations for board action on key educational, operational, and personnel matters. Academic LeadershipEnsure a rigorous and engaging curriculum that meets or exceeds NYS standards, including for students with disabilities and English language learners.Oversee curriculum revisions, professional development, assessment strategies and program evaluation.Collaborate with Principals to monitor student outcomes and improve teacher effectiveness.Support and enhance Special Education programming in accordance with IDEA and ADA requirements. Talent ManagementLead the recruitment, development, evaluation, and retention of high-quality educators and staff.Establish clear performance expectations and manage an evaluation system that promotes excellence and accountability.Provide direct supervision and professional support to administrative leaders and Principals. Operations and ComplianceEnsure full compliance with the charter school laws, federal and state education regulations, and local school policies.Oversees school safety, crisis management, emergency preparedness, and facility operations.Manage contracts and relationships with consultants, legal counsel, auditors, and vendors. Financial LeadershipCollaborate with the school’s CPA to develop and manage the annual budget in alignment with academic priorities.Monitor spending and maintain accurate financial and operational records.Pursue grant opportunities and external funding to support school initiatives.Oversee compliance with all grant requirements and reporting standards. Community EngagementServe as the public face of CSEE in the Yonkers community and beyond.Build strong partnerships with parents, community groups, higher education institutions, and external organizations.Ensure clear and consistent communication regarding the school’s mission, progress and needs. Qualifications Academic and Certification RequirementsMaster’s degree required; Doctorate degree preferredValid New York State School Building Leader (SBL) or School District Leader (SDL) Certification requiredEligibility to lead a New York State charter school, with deep familiarity with NYSED accountability metrics, charter authorizer processes, and compliance standards. Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesExtensive knowledge of charter school operations, public education law, curriculum development, and data-driven instruction.Proven ability to manage multiple departments and staff within a complex K-12 educational organization.Strong problem-solving, organizational and interpersonal skills.Proficiency with educational technology, data systems and artificial intelligence.A strong equity lens and demonstrated commitment to serving diverse student populations.Knowledge of Blue Ribbon School standards, application processes, and recognition programs is a plus.Experience RequirementsA minimum of five years of successful experience as Superintendent, or Chief Executive Officer or school Principal, preferably in a charter or high-performing public school setting.Demonstrated leadership in Special Education program development and compliance.Proven ability to lead school improvement efforts resulting in measurable student achievement gains.Experience working with charter boards, engaging families, and cultivating community partnerships.Experience establishing or maintaining articulation agreements or MOUs with local colleges or universities is often required. These agreements outline how high school students can earn college credit.CompensationA competitive compensation package including base salary and complete benefits is available.
