Position Title: Assistant Principal & Athletic Director Location: Cooperstown CSD, Cooperstown, Appointment Type: Full-Time, 12-Month Position Start Date: July 1, 2026 Salary Range: Commensurate with experience Position Overview The Cooperstown Central School District is seeking a dynamic, student-centered educational leader to serve in the dual role of Assistant Principal and Athletic Director. This position provides leadership in both the academic and extracurricular domains, supporting the principal in school administration while overseeing a comprehensive interscholastic athletic program aligned with New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) standards. The ideal candidate will foster a positive school climate, promote academic excellence, ensure equitable athletic opportunities, and build strong relationships with students, families, staff, and the community. Primary Responsibilities Assistant Principal Duties Support the Principal in daily building operations and instructional leadership Supervise and evaluate instructional and support staff Assist in curriculum implementation aligned with NYS Learning Standards Oversee student discipline in accordance with district policy and NYS regulations Promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful school environment Coordinate student support services, including MTSS and SEL initiatives Participate in scheduling, testing coordination, and data analysis Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and families to support student success Athletic Director Duties Administer and oversee all interscholastic athletic programs Ensure compliance with NYSPHSAA rules and Sectional regulations Schedule contests, arrange transportation, and coordinate officials Hire, supervise, and evaluate coaches and athletic staff Manage athletic budgets, equipment, and facilities Promote student-athlete academic performance, eligibility, and well-being Ensure adherence to health, safety, and risk management protocols Coordinate athletic events, including supervision and game management Maintain accurate records and reporting (rosters, eligibility, Title IX compliance) Required Qualifications Master’s Degree in Educational Administration, Educational Leadership, or related field Valid New York State School Building Leader (SBL) or School District Leader (SDL) certification Minimum of 3–5 years of successful teaching experience Demonstrated leadership experience in education (e.g., dean, coach, department chair) Strong knowledge of school operations, student discipline, and instructional best practices Understanding of interscholastic athletics and student eligibility regulations Preferred Qualifications Prior administrative experience at the secondary level Experience as an Assistant Principal, Dean, coach or athletic administrator Knowledge of NYSPHSAA rules, Sectional policies, and scheduling systems (e.g., ArbiterSports, Schedule Galaxy) Experience with equity in athletics and Title IX compliance Strong organizational, communication, and conflict-resolution skills Certifications & Clearances Candidates must possess or be eligible for: NYS School Building Leader (SBL) or School District Leader (SDL) Certification First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification (or willingness to obtain) Concussion Management Certification (per NYS requirements) Fingerprint Clearance through NYSED Key Competencies Instructional leadership and data-driven decision-making Organizational management and multitasking across roles Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion Strong interpersonal and community engagement skills Ability to manage high-visibility events and responsibilities
