Description: The Cooperstown Central School District has an opening for Director of Facilities to work full-time, 12-month. The successful candidate is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the custodial and maintenance activities of a School District’s buildings and grounds department. The work is performed according to established policies and procedures and in accordance with applicable State, local, and federal laws, rules and regulations which apply to school district facility operations and maintenance. Although certain activities are performed in the office, the incumbent of this position will, on occasion, be required to perform maintenance and repair related tasks and activities, which may be performed indoors or outdoors under adverse working conditions.Cooperstown Central School District enrolls about eight hundred students in two buildings ; Elementary (K-6) and Jr./Sr. High School (7-12on a forty-four acre campus. Over the past several years capital projects have improved and upgraded many aspects of district facilities thanks to the support of the community and utilization of State funding sources.Skills required:Thorough knowledge of· buildings and grounds maintenance and repair practices and procedures;· safety precautions and practices associated with buildings and grounds maintenance and repair work;· practices and techniques of one or more of the skilled trades* (defined in minimum qualifications below);· principles and practices of administrative supervision;Ability to· organize, prepare and maintain accurate records and files;· effectively, efficiently and safely use tools and operate equipment related to building and grounds maintenance and repair;· inspect the work of building tradespersons and contractors to ensure compliance with contract specifications, as well as, applicable codes and regulations;· prepare budgets, operating reports and a variety of other reports relative to program activities;· understand, interpret, and follow instructions, plans, diagrams, specifications and blueprints;· understand and follow written and verbal instructions;· communicate effectively both orally and in writing;MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Per Civil Service. This is a competitive position so individual is required to take and pass Otsego County Civil Service Director of Facilities II exam.· Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one of thefollowing:o A Bachelor’s or higher-level degree in School Facilities Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Building Construction Technology and two years of experience in school facilities maintenance, general building construction, building maintenance or repair work in two or more of the skilled trades*, which included two years of supervisory experience; oro An Associate’s or higher-level degree in School Facilities Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Building Construction Technology and four years of experience in school facilities maintenance, general building construction, building maintenance or repair work in two or more of the skilled trades*, which included two years of supervisory experience; oro Six years of experience in school facilities maintenance, general building construction, building maintenance or repair work in more than one of the skilled trades such, which included two years of supervisory experience.*Skilled trades would include journey level experience as a carpenter, electrician, mason, plumber or heating, ventilating and air conditioning installers.Non-Qualifying Experience: Experience limited to building cleaning is not qualifying.
