POSITION OVERVIEW Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES is seeking Part-Time Hourly Clinical Nursing Instructors to support our Adult Education Practical Nursing Program. Clinical instruction may include both long-term care and acute care settings, depending on program needs; however, we are currently prioritizing candidates with strong long-term care (LTC) clinical experience and availability for long-term care clinical rotations. These positions are ideal for experienced nurses who enjoy mentoring students in a hands-on clinical environment and supporting the development of safe, competent entry-level nurses. Clinical instructors play a vital role in guiding students through direct patient care experiences, clinical judgment development, and professional nursing practice. There are two (2) positions available. SCHEDULE & AVAILABILITY Lab instruction (August-September) occurs on: Thursdays and Fridays Day Shift: 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM Clinical instruction occurs on: Thursdays and Fridays (one or the other) Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 2:30 PM Evening Shift: 3:00 PM – 10:30 PM Scheduling of clinical shifts is based on program needs and instructor availability PROGRAM TIMELINE Primary Assignment Period: August through December Focus on long-term care clinical rotations and laboratory instruction Additional Opportunities: January through July (per diem basis) Clinical coverage, program support, and occasional staff meetings and assigned instructional support days QUALIFICATIONS Current, valid Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or currently progressing in a BSN program Eligible for certification as a Teacher of Basic Skills in Nursing (Adult Education Certificate) Strong clinical experience in: Long-term care (preferred and strongly prioritized) Acute care (hospital setting) preferred Prior teaching or precepting experience preferred Current CPR certification REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS This position reports directly to: Coordinator of Healthcare Occupations Director of Adult Education POSITION SUMMARY The Clinical Nursing Instructor supports student learning in the clinical environment by assisting students in the development of safe nursing skills, clinical judgment, and professional behavior. The instructor works closely with program leadership to provide consistent feedback that promotes student growth, confidence, and clinical competence. Clinical Instruction Prepare and distribute clinical assignments Conduct pre- and post-clinical conferences Assess student readiness for clinical practice Supervise and evaluate student performance in patient care settings Review and evaluate clinical documentation and charting Provide timely, constructive written feedback to students Key Responsibilities Participate in curriculum development, revision, and implementation Serve as a student advisor, meeting with assigned students at least three times per semester Professional Expectations Serve as a positive professional role model for nursing students Attend faculty meetings and required program activities Participate in ongoing professional development (workshops, conferences, continuing education, and professional literature) Maintain current knowledge of nursing practice and clinical standards Communicate student progress, expectations, and performance concerns with program leadership Report students at risk for unsafe or unsuccessful clinical performance Perform additional duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Healthcare Occupations Please send resume, cover letter, and references to: Ms. Lucy Padula, Coordinator of Healthcare Occupations Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES Center for Learning 12 Allen Street, Auburn, NY 13021 Questions about the position?
