The individual appointed to the eleven (11) month position of Behavioral Health Coordinator/School Counselor for the Cincinnatus Central School District would serve to provide school counseling services to support academic, career, and personal/social development for students and their families in grades 8 – 12.The Behavioral Health Coordinator/School Counselor is a key member of the District Counseling Team in the district.The Behavioral Health Coordinator/School Counselor is responsible for promoting the general well-being of students, advocating for their emotional, mental and physical well-being, as well as maximizing coping skills for students in difficult situations.Duties include providing direct and indirect counseling services to students experiencing social, emotional, and/or behavioral problems or situations that impact and/or interfere with their performance in school, as well as facilitating communication among teachers and staff, parents, and community providers.Assist teachers and parents in developing and implementing behavior management plans to address student behavioral and emotional issues and problems.Assist students to improve their academic, personal and social functioning.Provide short term individual and group counseling to students who are experiencing social/emotional/behavioral issues that interfere with their learning or ability of others to learn.Provide direct and indirect counseling services as a related service in support of special education.Provide direct and indirect school counseling services as specified in student IEPs.Work collaboratively to design and implement social skills, anger management, stress reduction or other similar instruction as is appropriate to address student needs, to include such services for students in the District’s special education programs.Assist in the development and implementation of interventions to allow students to be successful in a school setting.Provide information and assistance to families to help them understand their child’s needs and to equip them, as possible, with the tools necessary to support their child’s educational and/or behavioral progress.Provide parent training and support as needed.Provide short-term individual or group counseling to assist students during transitions and other high-stress situations.Act as a liaison between parents, teachers, staff and community providers to access, mobilize and coordinate services.Communicate with teachers, administrators, and parents concerning students social, emotional and behavioral progress.Provide information to students and parents about services available within the community.Make referrals to community providers, as appropriate.Consult and collaborate with social services, mental health, and other community providers.Maintain an accurate record of student, parent, and other contacts.Provide crisis intervention services, as needed.Conduct risk assessments.Coordinate parent, school, and community resources to address a crisis situation.Coordinate follow-up services, as needed.Perform other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as apparent or as assigned.Attend training sessions as well as required department and school meetings.Provide in-school training programs.Serve on committees, task forces, work groups, etc. as requested or as assigned.Keep updated on changing developments, trends, instructions, and educational technologies and service-related programs.Perform such other services as required.Meet with all students grades 8 – 12 to develop their pathway to graduation, action plans to achieve that pathway, and post-secondary options.Working with administration to create the master schedule.Lead collaborative team meetings with the counseling department utilizing PLT practices.Maintain a shared drive that supports and provides resources to the team.Lead data collection for the department at all three tiers of instruction.Lead the planning and implementation of the BIMAS-II.Collaboration with the district and building administrators.Developing and monitoring annual goal(s) for the department with the director of pupil personnel services.Lead the annual revision of the comprehensive school counseling plan.Apply on OLAS
