Assignment Location: Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Office – Located in Berlin Middle High SchoolAppointment Status: Probationary Civil Service Position (6 month probationary period). Please note that, while it is a civil service position, it is eligible for the NYS HELP program, meaning there is no civil service test required.Qualifications: Experience working within special education or education preferred, but those without such experience are still encouraged to apply. Please see below for the general senior typist qualifications:Either:Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and two years of experience in a clerical position involving keyboarding; ORCompletion of 60 semester credit hours at a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university which must have included at least twelve credit hours in secretarial science; ORThree years of clerical experience which involved keyboarding; ORAn equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (1), (2), and (3) above.Job Description: The senior typist position will work within the PPS office as the Committee on Special Education (CSE) secretary. This role includes scheduling meetings, reviewing documents, creating forms, calendars, spreadsheets, and other documents all related to special education requirements, related duties, and other duties as assigned. The incumbent does related work as required. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Good knowledge of office terminology, practices and procedures; good knowledge of business arithmetic; good knowledge of business English; ability to perform prolonged fine-finger movement on a keyboard; ability to perform detailed work involving visual effort and strain; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to set up forms, charts and tables; ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction; ability to write legibly; ability to use a range of common office software, including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive; ability to organize and maintain records and files; ability to plan and track various tasks; ability to review the work of others.
