QualificationsNew York State Certification as a School Social Worker - LCSW preferredGeneral Overview of Responsibilities: The school social worker is a specialist who serves as a liaison between home, school and communityActivity is directed toward those children whose academic, social, or behavior difficulties impair their learningThe school social worker collaborates with all school district personnel to broaden the school and district’s knowledge and understanding of the home environment The school social worker takes appropriate action to involve families in recognizing the nature of school related problems and plans accordingly for improvement.The school social worker interfaces with community agencies and other child-advocacy resources and facilitates the making of referrals and the consequent exchange of information and recommendations.Job Duties:Attend MTSS, SST, CSE, 504 and etc. meetings as necessary Collaborate with teachers and other professionals in assessing students’ needs anddesigning proactive strategies to support individual students.Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of Restorative Practices tosupport the academic and social skills acquisition and success of studentsAssist in the Implementation of appropriate MTSS school intervention and preventionprograms in response to demonstrated needs, which may include positive self-imagebuilding, social skills, and character education via consultation and/or individual, group,and family counseling or classroom lessonsProvide resources and referrals pertaining to community services/agencies andmaking referrals to appropriate agenciesAssist the building leadership team in fostering connections with families; removing barriers to student’s academic and social emotional success Provide mental health services according to Individual Education Plans and school-based plans (IEP, IST, RTI, 504)Progress monitor social emotional goals as indicated in student’s individual education programs, 504 plans, Behavior Intervention Plans or MTSS behavioral plansWork collaboratively with special and general education teachers and teams to meetstudent needsConduct home visits to assess the home environment and its impacts on the student'sEducation, and to liaise between the school and family Other duties and responsibilities as designated by the Director of Pupil Personnel Services or designee.Oversight of the school’s food pantry program (through the Regional Food Bank)
