K-5 Literacy CoachThe Bedford Central School District is actively seeking an experienced K-5 literacy coach to provide professional development, coaching, modeling, and co-teaching in highly effective instructional strategies aligned to the Science of Reading. The District is embarking on a new literacy curriculum and is seeking a collaborative and knowledgeable literacy coach to provide guidance, support, and expertise in the implementation process.Qualified candidates must be dual-certified in literacy and elementary education, demonstrate the skills and attitude of a master teacher, have at least five (5) years of elementary teaching experience, experience as a reading specialist or literacy coach, knowledge of multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and have strong content and instructional expertise in the areas of literacy. Experience with a variety of literacy curriculum materials, such as Bookworms, ARC Core, Fundations, Heggerty, Estrellita, and UFLI preferred. Biliterate and experience with implementing literacy in a dual-language bilingual education is a plus.Role & Responsibilities: Lead literacy professional development and coaching to improve teaching and learning – including teaching strategies, assessment of literacy skills, and analysis of assessment data. Provide research-based guidance regarding effective instructional practices in the six (6) pillars of literacy instruction: oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Provide research-based guidance on the components of biliteracy for bilingual learners, English language learners, and students with language-based disabilities. Provide leadership and support to building leaders in implementing the district’s adopted literacy program within each elementary school. Work collaboratively with elementary coordinators to support teachers in each building. Model lessons and engage teachers in the coaching cycle to support implementation of instructional materials as designed. Assist teachers in pacing, scope and sequence, vertical alignment, and planning for literacy curriculum and instruction from grade to grade. Develop and implement an organized coaching schedule that includes equitable time in all five elementary schools, as well as meeting time with building leadership, to support the effective implementation of literacy curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Support literacy curriculum, instruction and professional development for middle school teachers and leaders in grades 6-8.Anticipated start date: July 1, 2024Salary starting at $76,765 or higher commensurate with experience.Reports to: Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and InstructionCandidates should apply on OLAS by June 21, 2024.
