Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District is seeking qualified candidates for a 12 month, full-time Transportation Supervisor vacancy for the 2025-2026 school year set to begin on July 1st, 2025.POSITION CLASS DEFINITION:This is a supervisory position involving responsibility for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the transportation facilities overseeing more than 50 transportation employees and roughly 1000 students. PRIMARY WORK ACTIVITIES:Typical activities characteristic of the class.Establishes and assigned routes for school, athletic, and extracurricular runsSupervises service, maintenance, and repair of all school district vehiclesGives road tests to, and trains, new driversEvaluates all transportation staff annuallyOrganizes, files, and submits all required federal and state reportsConducts road trips to observe and evaluate driver’s defensive driving performance in accordance with vehicle and traffic law regulationsArranges periodic training and safety classes for bus driversKeeps administrators and drivers notified of changes in motor vehicle laws and regulationsKeeps a daily record of mileage and number of pupils carriedInvestigates bus accidents on the scene and prepares reportsHandles complaints from staff, students, parents, and community members in relation to bus routes, student discipline, and other concernsMakes out periodic reports of district expensesApproves all purchases of parts and materialsApproves and maintains time records of bus drivers, aides, and bus maintenance for payroll purposesDrives buses when neededPerforms all additional duties as assigned by the superintendentKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Summary of full performance level characteristics.THOROUGH KNOWLEDGE OF: standard transportation methods and the operation of buses; automotive repair methods and the terminology and tools of the trade; the geography of the district; safety procedures and practices in the operation of the automotive equipment; the New York State Motor Vehicle Law;ABILITY TO: plan and supervise the work of subordinates; keep records and make reports; get along well with others; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education, specialized background, training and experience.Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university with an associate’s degree and three (3) years of experience in school transportation, commercial bus or truck transportation, or the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles which included responsibility for operating, routing, scheduling personnel, or the maintenance of vehicles, six (6) months of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; ORGraduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and five (5) years of experience as defined in “A” above, six (6) months of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; ORAn equivalent combination of experience as defined within the limits of “A” and “B” above.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/CERTIFICATION/LICENSES:Candidates must possess the appropriate level New York State driver’s license at time of appointment and satisfy the requirements for School Bus Driver set forth in the Rules and Regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education. Candidates should possess 19A and SBDI certification.
