The Altmar Parish Williamstown CSD is seeking a full-time probationary Behavioral Specialist to begin on January 1, 2023. The position salary is based on experience and the APW Faculty Association contract.Candidates must hold valid NYS Certification in School Psychology or Social Worker. Candidates should have experience working with students K-12. Prior training in data analysis and facilitation is preferred.The District Wide Behavioral Specialist position requires effective collaboration with classroom teachers, school counselors, administration and other school personnel preK-12. The Behavior Specialist will provide staff development for school personnel, and attend professional development opportunities to stay current in the field. Knowledge of and/or experience with restorative practices, CPI, TCI-S, or similar crisis prevention and intervention systems are preferred. The Behavior Specialist will participate as an active member of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support and Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plan (FBA/BIP) development teams, as well as support the implementation of plans and gathering of data. The Behavior Specialist will provide crisis support to students as needed. There may be other duties as assigned.Qualifications:1. Certification as a School Psychologist in New York State.2. Experience working with Special Education and with behaviorally challenged students.3. Experience dealing with students in crisis and managing the crisis cycle.4. Knowledge and/or experience with tiered intervention systems, RTL, MTSS, restorative practice, TCI-S or similar crisis prevention and intervention system, and Applied Behavior Analysis.5. Knowledge of trauma informed instruction preferred.6. Experience working within a high poverty setting.7. Experience working with both elementary and high school students.8. Proven ability to connect with and form relationships with students.9. Ability to lead teams and professionally present information across programs and districts.10. Strong organizational skills with attention to details, timelines and follow-through.11. The ability to build capacity within an organization.Typical Duties:• Participate in FBA/BIP development and BIP plan management including collection and reporting of data.• Utilize data to refine goals and improve identification of appropriate evidence-based intervention strategies intended to change behaviors.• Provide short-term crisis intervention for students and assist in dealing with the aftermath of a crisis to help students regain a sense of safety and strategies to reenter programming.• Conduct home visits where appropriate and provide wrap-around familial support.• Collaborate with classroom teachers, counselors and school personnel regarding: individual students’ behaviors and data, patterns of behaviors, programmatic observations, behavioral and instructional interventions, etc.• Work cooperatively with administration and staff to promote positive student behavior.• Lead team meetings and develop teacher leaders to develop and sustain Multi-tiered systems of support.• Attend professional development related to job duties and program goals to remain current in research and practice in behavior management.• Provide ongoing professional development for school personnel working with students with behavioral needs on behavioral management techniques and de-escalation strategies.• Work with building administrators to provide crisis support and alternatives to disciplinary consequences that produce a loss of instruction time.• Provide frequent communication with families and educate them on community supports available where appropriate.***This individual would be hired as part of the teacher’s union and function as a player /coach with faculty colleagues.All internal & external applications will be accepted through OLAS only: https://www.olasjobs.org/
