JOB DESCRIPTION: TREASURER The role of an effective Treasurer encompasses a multitude of responsibilities, each essential to the fiscal health of the district and is an essential component of a school district striving for excellence and achievement in education. The work involves performing accounting responsibilities relating to budget and financial functions, knowledge of business, computer and fund accounting principles. Proficiency with computer database and accounting programs is essential. The successful candidate will possess the skills to exercise independent judgment while performing their duties under the supervision of the School Business Administrator. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of governmental accounting principles and procedures and the ability to apply such knowledge to accounting transactions; knowledge of the general principles of public finance administration, including budgeting and financial reporting; knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word software programs; ability to prepare complete and accurate accounting reports and statements of some complexity; ability to perform detailed work including written or numeric data and to make arithmetic calculations rapidly and accurately; ability to follow complex oral and written instructions. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Performs accounting for all funds utilizing the NYS municipal accounting system • Maintains the general ledger, cash receipts and cash disbursements for all funds • Maintains the integrity of accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll accounting • Completes a monthly trial balance and treasurer’s report for board meetings • Prepares monthly cash flow reports – actual vs. projected• Gathers information for official statements for all of the district’s notes (TAN & BAN), and bond issues • Establishes and maintains a fixed asset accounting system • Assists with all aspects of budget preparation • Assist the internal auditors with their annual risk assessment review • Assist the external auditor with their annual review • Prepares the annual financial report (ST3) and assists the School Business Administrator with annual State Aid Claim documents • All other duties as assigned by the School Business Administrator QUALIFICATIONS: • Minimum of 2 years of college education • Major in a business related field preferred • Two years of experience in maintaining the financial records and accounting within a school system or municipality preferred
