The Watertown City School District is now accepting applications for an Assistant Coordinator of Data, Accountability, and Assessment. Position Summary The Assistant Coordinator of Data, Accountability, and Assessment supports the district's work in educational data, state assessment systems, student information systems, and evidence-based instructional improvement. This position plays a key role in advancing the use of data to inform instructional decisions across buildings and grade levels PreK–12, working in close coordination with building administrators, instructional coaches, and district leadership. The individual in this role must possess deep knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and NYS academic standards, and must be able to translate assessment and achievement data into concrete, actionable strategies for school teams at all levels. This includes a clear understanding of the district's instructional framework and the ability to connect student outcome data directly to classroom practice. This position requires strong facilitation skills — the demonstrated ability to lead outcome-focused meetings, guide school teams toward clear decisions, and support the implementation of data-driven action plans. The individual will serve as the district’s primary coordinator of the NYS Assessment Program A critical component of this role is serving as the district's primary SIS administrator, responsible for day-to-day implementation, configuration, and staff support of the new Student Information System, in close partnership with MORIC, who provides technical infrastructure and vendor coordination. Candidates must demonstrate prior success leading data-driven teams, directing structured and productive meetings with measurable outcomes, and producing improvements in student performance. Core Competencies Required Data, Assessment & Systems Expertise Deep, working knowledge of NYS assessment systems including administration, security, reporting, and NYSED compliance requirements Ability to analyze, interpret, and present disaggregated student data in accessible formats for varied audiences Experience leading or managing a Student Information System (SIS) implementation or transition, including configuration, staff training, data integrity, and troubleshooting Proficiency with district student data platforms, including the student information system, assessment data tools, and student analytics systems Capacity to translate data findings into specific instructional recommendations that teachers and coaches can act on Instructional Knowledge Comprehensive understanding of NYS P–12 academic standards and curriculum frameworks Knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies, tiered intervention models, and how assessment data informs classroom practice Familiarity with the district’s instructional framework and ability to connect data analysis directly to those shared practices Experience evaluating alignment between instructional practice and student outcome data Meeting Facilitation & Leadership Demonstrated skill facilitating structured, outcome-focused meetings — with clear agendas, time discipline, explicit decisions, and documented follow-through Ability to move teams toward clear decisions, offer direct recommendations when students are not making progress, and support building staff in following through on action steps between meetings Confidence and authority to lead difficult conversations about student performance, staff accountability, and instructional improvement Experience establishing and monitoring action plans across multiple buildings simultaneously Commitment to efficient, purposeful meetings that result in documented outcomes and consistent follow-through Primary Responsibilities Student Information System (SIS) Implementation & Management Coordinate with the district’s primary lead for the transition to the new SIS, including project coordination, vendor liaison, configuration, staff training, and go-live support Manage the parallel operation of legacy systems during transition, ensuring continuity of data access and reporting for principals and administrators Establish and maintain clear data governance standards, entry protocols, and quality control processes across all buildings in the new SIS Design and maintain reports and dashboards within the new SIS that give building leaders real-time visibility into student attendance, grades, and intervention documentation Serve as the primary support contact for SIS troubleshooting, user questions, and system issues; escalate to vendor as needed Balance SIS implementation demands with full continuity of NYS assessment coordination NYS Assessment Program Oversight Serve as the district’s primary coordinator for all NYS state assessments — including scheduling, preparation, administration, security, and reporting — with fidelity to all NYSED requirements Coordinate test administration logistics across all buildings; serve as the primary liaison with NYSED assessment representatives Ensure all staff involved in assessment administration receive required training and that security protocols are followed without exception Compile, analyze, and present state assessment results to district leadership and building principals in clear, actionable formats Maintain and communicate the district’s assessment calendar; ensure alignment with instructional planning across buildings Support the district's implementation of NYS Portrait of a Graduate initiatives, including performance-based assessment design, data collection, and reporting Coordinate PreK–12 universal screener administration and data collection per the district Assessment and Survey calendar Data Systems & Accountability Oversee the accuracy, integrity, and usability of student data across all district systems during and after the SIS transition Design and maintain data dashboards and reports that allow principals and teachers to monitor student progress in real time Establish clear, consistent data review cycles at the building and district level, tied directly to instructional decision-making Coordinate with building administrators to ensure data integrity in attendance, grades, and intervention documentation Log and manage outcome data in the district's designated system for grant compliance and funding documentation Respond to data and assessment inquiries from staff, administrators, and outside agencies in a timely and informed manner Instructional Support & Professional Learning Provide targeted, data-informed professional learning for teachers and instructional staff with a direct focus on improving student achievement outcomes — not general SEL or wellness programming Work closely with the Director of Student Empowerment and Success and the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction to align data and assessment work with the district’s instructional framework and strategic priorities Coach building principals and instructional teams in using data to drive classroom practice; connect assessment results to specific instructional decisions Support the implementation of NYSED initiatives, including diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, grounded in academic outcome data Additional Responsibilities Support the implementation of district strategic plan priorities through data collection, reporting, and progress monitoring aligned to district goals Oversee GED and credit recovery programs Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor Clarification of Role Scope While the Assistant Coordinator will collaborate with SEL, mental health, and student support staff, the primary emphasis of this role is academic data, assessment systems, SIS management, and instructional improvement. The individual in this role should be a confident facilitator who can guide teams toward clear decisions and support follow-through on action steps when students are not making progress Performance Expectations The individual in this role will be evaluated on the following indicators: Successful SIS implementation: on-time milestones, staff adoption rates, and data integrity throughout the transition Smooth, compliant administration of all NYS state assessments in accordance with NYSED requirements Accuracy, accessibility, and usability of student data systems across all buildings Evidence that data is informing instructional decisions at the building and classroom level Feedback from building principals and the Director of Student Empowerment and Success regarding the quality and impact of the Assistant Coordinator's support Purposeful, well-organized meetings with clear agendas and documented next steps QUALIFICATIONS, BACKGROUND, AND EXPERIENCE New York State certification as a School District Administrator (SDA), School District Leader (SDL), or School Building Leader (SBL). Demonstrated at least three (3) years of secondary-level principal leadership experience, including but not limited to experience in curriculum leadership, personnel supervision, student management, and building operations. Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment, including familiarity with the NYS Portrait of a Graduate and NY Inspires framework. Demonstrated knowledge of NYSED special education regulations, IEP and 504 plan implementation, and ENL/ELL programming requirements. Strong skills in student management, school operations, staff supervision, and disciplinary due process. Demonstrated ability to lead a multi-building or campus-wide administrative team. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively within an administrative leadership team and with external partners including Jefferson Community College. QUALIFICATIONS, BACKGROUND, AND EXPERIENCE New York State certification as a School Building Leader (SBL), School District Leader (SDL), School District Administrator (SDA), or equivalent administrative certification required. Demonstrated expertise in educational data analysis, assessment systems, accountability measures, student achievement reporting, and the use of data to improve instructional outcomes. Experience coordinating and administering New York State assessments, including knowledge of NYSED testing requirements, security protocols, reporting systems, and compliance expectations. Demonstrated experience with Student Information Systems (SIS), including implementation, configuration, data management, user support, staff training, and system administration. Strong knowledge of New York State learning standards, curriculum frameworks, evidence-based instructional practices, tiered intervention models, and the relationship between instructional practice and student achievement. Demonstrated ability to facilitate professional learning, lead data teams, conduct outcome-focused meetings, and translate complex data into actionable recommendations for educators and administrators. Experience developing and maintaining data dashboards, reports, performance monitoring systems, and data governance practices to support district and building-level decision-making. Strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, build collaborative relationships, and lead complex initiatives involving multiple stakeholders. Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and the effective use of data, assessment, and technology systems to support student success and district strategic priorities. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Twelve (12) months. This is a Watertown Administrative and Supervisory Association (WASA)-affiliated position.
