The Assistant Director of Facilities III supports the administrative operations of the school district's buildings and grounds department. This role involves coordinating day-to-day activities, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations, and assisting the Director in managing operations, personnel, and maintenance projects. The Assistant works under the general supervision of the Director and exercises limited independent judgment while collaborating closely with staff and contractors. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESAdministrative Support• Assist the Director in supervising operations and personnel within the buildings and grounds department.• Develop and maintain records, reports, and documentation to support departmental activities.• Coordinate departmental schedules, policies, and procedures to ensure operational efficiency.• Review and process purchase requests for supplies, materials, and equipmentOperations and Maintenance Oversight• Monitor preventive maintenance programs to maintain facilities and equipment in a safe and efficient condition.• Assist in conducting site inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.• Assist with coordinating and overseeing work performed by contractors, maintenance staff, and custodians.• Provide feedback to the Director on the status of repairs, projects, and overall maintenance activities.Personnel Coordination• Assist with interviewing, hiring, evaluating, and training departmental personnel.• Address staff inquiries and assist in resolving personnel issues related to work schedules, leave requests, and policies.• Support the development and delivery of in-service training for custodial, maintenance, and transportation employees.Project and Budget Assistance:• Collaborate with the Director in planning, implementing, and monitoring capital projects and long-term maintenance plans.• Review prior-year expenditures and assist in preparing budget forecasts for upcoming fiscal periods.Communication and Reporting:• Respond to inquiries from staff, school administrators, and the public about buildings and grounds activities.• Attend meetings with administrators, committees, and the school board to provide updates and address concerns.QUALIFICATIONS, BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE• Strong knowledge of building and grounds maintenance practices, safety regulations, and applicable codes.• Familiarity with administrative supervision principles and budgeting practices.• Ability to inspect work for compliance with specifications and applicable standards.• Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.• Proficiency in recordkeeping and preparing operational reports.• Ability to interpret and follow policies, blueprints, and technical instructions.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one of the following:(A) A Bachelor’s or higher-level degree in School Facilities Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Building Construction Technology, or a closely related field, and two years of experience in school facilities maintenance, general building construction, building maintenance, or repair work in two or more of the skilled trades*, which included two years of supervisory experience; or(B) An Associate’s or higher-level degree in School Facilities Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Building Construction Technology, or a closely related field, and four years of experience in school facilities maintenance, general building construction, building maintenance, or repair work in two or more of the skilled trades*, which included two years of supervisory experience; or(C) Five years of experience in school facilities maintenance, general building construction, building maintenance, or repair work in two or more of the skilled trades*, which included or was supplemented by two years of supervisory experience.*Skilled trades would include journey level experience as a carpenter, electrician, mason, plumber and heating, ventilating and air conditioning installers.Non-Qualifying Experience: Experience limited to building cleaning is not qualifying. Building cleaning is defined as activities primarily involving a variety of inside and outside building cleaning activities including, but not limited to, washing walls and windows, polishing floors, cleaning restrooms, disposing of refuse.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license and certificates appropriate to the vehicles, equipment and/or machinery operated at time of appointment or during the course of employment consistent with the needs of the School District. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT IN SCHOOL DISTRICTS:In accordance with the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) legislation,Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and by the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, candidates for appointment in school districts must obtain clearance foremployment from the State Education Department prior to employment based upon a fingerprint and criminal history background check.Salary is commensurate with experience.EOE
