The Watertown City School District is currently accepting applications for a tenure-track Gifted & Talented Teacher (grades 5-9) for the 2024-2025 school year. Interested applicants must possess a valid NYS Teaching Certificate in grades 5-9 General Science or Math AND Gifted Education Extension (Pre-K-12). EOEQualifications:New York State Certification in grades 5-9 General Science or MathNew York State Gifted Education Extension (Pre-K - 12)Description:The gifted and talented teacher will provide identified gifted and talented students with appropriate learning experiences that develop potential and lead to advanced academic achievement. They will provide services for gifted and talented students in grades five through eight at two schools, working in collaboration with administrators and teachers to provide supplemental support for increasing advanced student achievement for all students, specifically gifted and talented students through staff development, instructional planning, direct instruction to students, and classroom support for teachers. The gifted and talented teacher will also provide academic intervention services to students. Personal Characteristics:Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skillsAbility to differentiate instruction and meet the diverse needs of gifted learners Essential Performance Responsibilities:Create and evaluate programming for gifted and talented populationsFacilitate the testing of students for inclusion in the gifted and talented programPossess and apply knowledge of the educational needs of gifted and talented studentsDisplay knowledge of strategies and materials for the education of gifted and talented studentsPossess ability to design and implement interdisciplinary units of studyDisplay ability to use open-ended and problem-solving approaches of instruction.Demonstrate flexibility and confidence in working with gifted students, their parents, and staffCollaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, pupil personnel services staff, and community agencies to ensure that gifted and talented students’ academic and social-emotional needs are metIdentify the academic and social emotional competencies among gifted students and deliver appropriate instruction, coaching, and resources to engage empower, and support the growth of each studentPossess knowledge of curriculum design and implementationDisplay knowledge of assessment principles and designEstablish and maintain effective communication with parents and guardians regarding the progress and needs of gifted studentsPossess strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsPossess knowledge and understanding of the cognitive, social, and emotional characteristics of studentsIdentify needs and potential challenges experienced by gifted learners from diverse populationsDemonstrate ability to develop differentiated curricula appropriate to meeting the unique academic strengths of gifted learnersDemonstrate the ability to create an environment in which gifted learners can feel challenged and safe to exploreCollect, analyze and evaluate student data for the purpose of monitoring student progress, program evaluation and continuous improvement of gifted learnersParticipate in professional development opportunities to stay current with research and best practices in gifted educationDeliver professional development Notes: Other duties as assigned by the building principals and the Director for Student Empowerment and Success Job specification subject to change as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent of Schools
