The Watertown City School District is looking for a steM Coach to provide leadership and support to teachers in curriculum development, instruction, and professional learning, and program implementation with a focus on mathematics. This Coach will play a central role in working with school counselors and home school coordinators to identify at-risk youth in need of support in regard to attendance and credit-accrual, in coordinating with classroom teachers and instructional coaches, creating a positive culture that exudes enthusiasm for mathematics, in improving comfort and confidence of students in years of transition between buildings, and in reviewing the program of studies alongside educators and counselors at the high school. While this individual’s efforts will impact all buildings and grade levels, the greatest area of focus will be on grades 7-10 as math proficiency, enrollment, and assessment data show the greatest need for support at these grade levels.Required and Preferred Qualifications:Required: Minimum B.A. in Education, Human Services, Social Work, or related fieldPreferred: Candidate will have 7-12 teacher certification in an instructional content area.Experienced with family engagement, instruction, student-centered learning, and providing professional development.The successful candidate will:build trusting and collaborative relationships with staff members;build consensus among grade levels and groups of teachers, while working collaboratively with diverse groups;demonstrate content expertise in subject area(s);support content and pedagogy at all levels of subject areas and help to create vertical alignment between and within buildings;use research to identify best practices and help market their effectiveness to staff;demonstrate a commitment to the WCSD Strategic Plan and its components;communicate effectively with all stakeholders; provide professional development and individual coaching support as requested; Have knowledge, experience, and/or excitement about technology and technology integration; andbuild capacity in staff to develop curricula, instructional materials, and assessments (as applicable). Duties and Responsibilities:Help to ensure alignment of mathematics curriculum/instruction/assessments to standards and among grade levels.Assist departments and AIS staff in setting goals for improved mathematics instruction.Support teachers and teaching assistants in preparing lesson plans for the purposes of differentiating instruction in mathematics. Provide professional development on content and pedagogy.Attend professional meetings as requested, both during and after school.Meet with the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction monthly to discuss program successes, progress, and areas of need.Attend department meetings, as requested, for the purpose of sharing data and discussing best practices.Informally visit classes to identify student areas of success and need (non-evaluative), as requested by individual teachers or Building Principals.Other responsibilities as assigned from Building Principal and/or Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and/or Assistant Superintendent for Personnel & Student Services.This is a DoDEA grant-funded position and salary is commensurate with experience.
