The Watertown City School District is looking for a Student Success Specialist (Teacher on Special Assignment). The Student Success Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting students, teachers, and parents in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in behavioral strategies, counseling, and collaboration with educational stakeholders. The position requires annual or bi-annual professional development to stay current in research-based behavioral strategies. Qualifications:New York State Certification in Special Education or a valid NYS Teaching Certificate in Childhood Education 1-6 or Early Childhood Education B-2.Relevant experience in dysregulation action plans, social emotional coaching, counseling, or a similar role in an educational settingStrong understanding of behavioral assessment tools and intervention strategiesExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsA willingness to teach adult learners and provide professional developmentKnowledge of resources and research behind best inclusive practices for all Experience with modifying and applying accommodations in classroomsAbility to collaborate effectively with students, teachers, parents, aides, teacher assistants, social workers, school counselors, school psychologists, home-school coordinators, and school administratorsKnowledge of special education laws and regulationsCrisis Prevention Institute Training, Trauma-Informed Care Training, Youth Mental Health First Aid Training, and other trainings as directed by the Superintendent of Schools and/or the Director of Student Empowerment and SuccessResponsibilities:Behavioral Assessment:Conduct comprehensive behavioral assessments for students experiencing challengesCollaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to gather relevant information Individualized Intervention Plans:Develop and implement individualized behavior intervention plans for studentsCollect data on the use of strategies and provide ongoing monitoring and adjustments to intervention plans as needed based on this data Classroom Support:Collaborate with teachers, aides, teacher assistants, social workers, school counselors, school psychologists, home-school coordinators, and administrators to create a positive and supportive classroom environment.Offer strategies and resources to manage challenging behaviors within the classroom setting. Training and Professional DevelopmentProvide training sessions and ongoing professional development opportunities for teachers, aides, teacher assistants, social workers, school counselors, school psychologists, home-school coordinators, and administrators on effective behavior management strategies and behavioral strategies Parental InvolvementCollaborate with parents/guardians to strategize and encourage self-regulation methods at homeConduct parent/guardian education sessions to enhance understanding and collaboration. Data Collection and AnalysisMaintain detailed records of behavioral assessments, strategies, and outcomesAssess the efficacy of strategies and make data-driven decisions Crisis InterventionProvide support during crisis situations and contribute to the development of crisis intervention plans Collaboration with School StaffWork closely with school administrators, counselors, and other support staff to create a cohesive support system.Attend team meetings and contribute to the development of school-wide strategies Full benefit package to include, health, dental, vision and NYS retirement.
