This class is a Special Class for elementary level students (6:1:2). The Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of all students with disabilities and create an enriching classroom environment. Students will receive a comprehensive array of related services and some will utilize augmentative/alternative communication (AAC) devices. There will be a full time Teaching Assistant and Teacher Aide. An Occupational Therapist and Speech Therapist will also be part of the team. Students will receive music therapy in the program as well. Special Education Teacher Expectations: Provides specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP; Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques; Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals Special Education Teacher Key Qualities Builds positive and collaborative working relationships with colleagues; Practices patience with all students, families and colleagues; Always seeking new ways to teach students the way they learn. Teacher Applicant Requirements Special Education K-2 and 1-6 certification required Prefer experience working with student on the Autism Spectrum *This is a 1 year leave of absence position. Per the WTA contract.
