This class is a Functional Skills Classroom for elementary level students (6:1:2). The Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of all students with disabilities and create an enriching classroom environment. Students will receive a comprehensive array of related services and some will utilize augmentative/alternative communication (AAC) devices. There will be a full time Teaching Assistant and Teacher Aide. Additionally, there will be a part time Occupational Therapist and part time Speech Therapist that will staff the classroom opposite times of the day (ie. OT 8:00-11:30 & Speech 11:30-3:00). Furthermore, we will have Music Therapy for all enrolled students. Special Education Teacher Expectations Provides specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP; Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques; Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals Special Education Teacher Key Qualities Builds positive and collaborative working relationships with colleagues; Practices patience with all students, families and colleagues; Always seeking new ways to teach students the way they learn. Teacher Applicant Requirements Special Education K-2 and 1-6 certification required Prefer experience working with student on the Autism Spectrum This is a permanent, 10 month, tenure track position. Per the WTA contract, the salary range is $54,025-$60,888 based upon experience. Additional $36 per graduate credit hour as well. A generous benefits package is available. Teachers are eligible to participate in the NYS Teacher Retirement System (TRS).
