Number of Positions: 2Salary: $30,063-$45,656 commensurate with experienceLocation: Ballard Road Conference Center, WiltonWork Hours: Monday - Friday 7:30am-3:00pmThis position involves responsibility to process information by operating a terminal linked to a mainframe computer or networked or stand-alone micro-computer in accordance with programmed instructions by manipulation of a standard alpha-numeric keyboard and related peripheral equipment to record, edit , store, revise and retrieve correspondence, reports, statistical, accounting and a variety of other forms of data. This position does not involve responsibilities in the areas of computer programming or systems analysis. However, an incumbent may modify or merge existing software or other program language in accomplishing information processing functions. Additionally, when not engaged in equipment operation, an incumbent performs a variety of clerical duties. In order to be classified as an Information Processing Specialist, the position must have responsibility for operating the computer and related equipment approximately 70% or more of the work time for the primary purpose of database management, but also to include word processing and spreadsheet applications. Positions utilizing the equipment less than approximately 70% of the work time are classified in another appropriate clerical series based on duties and responsibilities performed. The work is performed under general supervision of a higher-level employee. The incumbent does related work as required.Operates computer equipment and related peripheral equipment such as scanners, and printers;Maintains records by utilizing electronic management systems or programs, record, edit, sort retrieve and revise data, correspondence, reports, statistical tables, forms and other textual materials and documents;Compiles, verifies accuracy of, and analyzes data including the preparation of charts from multiple divisions of the organization, and prepares this data as reports for administration, local, regional and state regulatory agencies, and the Board of Education;Assigns and reviews work and instructs employees in specialized clerical and/or information processing activities specific to the division;Makes file searches, retrieves and prints data in standard software format, as well as to create custom reports and documents;Sets up appropriate controls on computer for margination, line spacing, paragraph, heading and footer information and other controls as necessary for document amendment or production;Prints completed documents to draft or letter quality as appropriate and forwards to supervisor or administrator for review;Confers with superiors on projects as to procedures; machine time, rate of output and difficulties encountered;Assists in training new personnel and staff on information processing equipment(and custom software) as requested;Uses local or wide area network for electronic mail, communication, data transfer, and searches;Prepares operator training materials and information equipment/software documentation;Communicates regularly with other BOCES departments, outside agencies and school districts;Performs a variety of clerical functions related to the position.Minimum Qualifications:Graduation from a regionally accredited New York State registered college with an associate degree in secretarial science, secretary and office studies, secretarial arts, secretarial technology, business office technology, computer technology or related field; ORGraduation from high school and two years of experience in the operation of information processing equipment*; ORThree years of experience in the operation of information processing equipment*; ORAn equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A),(B) and (C) above.Diverse candidates are encouraged to apply.*Operation of information processing equipment is defined to mean the operation of a micro-computer or mainframe terminal utilizing word processing, database management and spreadsheet software and related peripheral equipment including printer, scanner and modem.Note: Vacancies are filled by a certified list provided by Washington County Civil Service.
