Western Suffolk BOCES anticipates the need for an Outdoor Environmental Education Specialist/Lab Manager. QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Environmental Science or related fieldNew York State CertificationA minimum of two years related experience in field science educationResponsible individual able to interact with teachers and students in a professional mannerWell-organized, capable of maintaining a high efficiency level while assisting and teaching in numerous programsWorking knowledge of the New York State Science Learning StandardsMarine science education experience preferred JOB RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDEInstructionDay UseDaily environmental instruction in an outdoor setting (1 to 5 classes per day)Training parents before classes arrivePlanning outdoor environmental education programs with teachersSpecial ServicesPlan and lead authentic field science programs with up to 50 studentsPlan and lead classroom programsScience support for WSB special education elementary schoolsProvide Professional DevelopmentPlan and implement custom teacher in-service trainings in coordination with participating districtsProvide New York Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS) Support and trainings for districtsProvide internal staff workshopsEnsure safe practices for all education programs (preparation/planning)Lab OperationsBudgets and Purchase RequisitionsEnsure working order of all equipmentMaintain live animal exhibits and ensure ethical and humane care of animalsCreate and maintain educational displays MaintenanceCreate and maintain a schedule to meet the demands of site managementEnsure grounds are maintained (filling birdfeeders, mowing, tree pruning, leaf removal, etc.)Buildings maintenance (daily operations, janitorial, etc.)Maintain program and landscape equipmentOtherTo work as a member of a team, including networking with colleagues, staff, volunteers, State Parks, BOCES, SCOPE, teachers, science coordinators and field trip sitesTo conduct other activities, such as, curriculum developmentOther responsibilities as assigned by the Coordinator of Outdoor Environmental EducationSalary range $52,000-$65,000 dependent on qualifications.To apply please upload a resume and job specific cover letter.
