Western Suffolk BOCES is hiring for a Nurse Assist Clinical Instructor to teach the afternoon session at our Wilson Tech Northport campus. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:Establishes a climate that is favorable to the professional and personal growth and development of the Nurse Assisting student. The role of the instructor is that of facilitating a progression of learning that will prepare the individual student as a qualified and competent Nurse Assistant in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the Nurse Assisting Program.QUALIFICATIONS:Education: A Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Nursing is required; Master’s Degree preferred.Licensure: Current New York State professional nursing registration. New York State Clinical Instructor permit.Experience: Minimum of three years current clinical experience as a registered nurse in a Long Term Care Facility. Prior teaching experience preferred but not required.RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:Carries out theoretical instruction in an assigned area including: identifying course objectives, preparing lesson plans and completing evaluation tools.Facilitates learning through the use of a wide variety of teaching methods including lecture, computers, learning resource materials, demonstrations, and supervised practice.Selects appropriate audiovisual and other learning aids; arranges for guest lectures, tours, and observations; conducts appropriate research, e.g., current literature, community resources.Adapts materials to the level of the learner.Establishes and maintains an atmosphere conducive to optimum learning.Maintains professional attitude and appearance.Maintains accurate daily attendance and other pertinent student records.Submits lesson plans on time according to established guidelines.Conferences students as needed regarding academic and clinical progress.Provides tutorial sessions for students as needed.Refers students to the Principal when academic or clinical progress is at risk.Monitors and maintains student’s physical examination reports for completeness and currency.Ensures that emergency phone chain for each class is developed and updated.Ensures that grades for the Nurse Assisting students are calculated.Assumes responsibility for clinical instruction in assigned areas.Consults with other classroom and clinical instructors to determine current learning needs and abilities of assigned students.Selects appropriate learning experience based on course objectives.Orients students to assigned clinical facility’s policy and procedures.Supervises and evaluates patient care given by students.Guides students in the development of nurse assisting skillsCooperates with all interdisciplinary team members in carrying out care for patients assigned to students.Conducts planned clinical conferences on a daily basis.Confers with students on their clinical progress on a daily basis.Facilitates learning by providing opportunities for supplementary student learning: ie. In-service workshops, observations etc.Maintains anecdotal records when necessary which reflect the student’s clinical performance. These are used as a basis for the weekly clinical evaluation.Completes weekly evaluation form and conducts individual conference with each student at the close of the rotation period regarding the evaluation.Participates in departmental faculty and technical advisory committee meetings on a consistent basis.Participates in the evaluation, revision, and development of policies regarding admission, evaluation, progression and graduation of students.Participates in the assessment, planning, evaluations and revisions of the curriculum to reflect current practice, educational and regulatory standards.Participates in the review and selection of required textbooks.Recommends the purchase of equipment and supplies, reference books and audiovisual materials.Assists in the recommendation and selection of students for the completion of the Nurse Assisting Program and their eligibility for the State certification.Acts as a liaison between affiliating agencies and the school.Acts as a representative of the school to other community agencies and institutions.Participates in continuing education and professional development programs.Ensures that all required documentation is kept current in employee file.Actively participates in the self-evaluation process and peer mentoring program.Maintains membership in professional organizations.Responds to telephone/e-mail/written communication in a timely fashion and meets established deadlines.Demonstrates a spirit of collegiality including teamwork, cooperation, and accountability with fellow faculty members.Performs other related duties, as necessary.Preview
