Western Suffolk BOCES anticipates an opening for an Outdoor Environmental Special Services Coordinator.To apply, please upload your letter of interest and resume.QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelors Degree in Biology, Environmental Science or related fieldNYS Certification in ScienceCPR and First Aid CertificationA minimum of three years related experienceResponsible individual able to interact with teachers and students in a professional mannerWell-organized, capable of maintaining a high efficiency level while assisting and teaching in numerous programsWorking knowledge of standards and classroom curriculum JOB RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:Special Services are unique programs directly involved in authentic studies of the natural world.Research, design, and deliver special service programs to support and enhance classroom curriculum aligned to the NYS Common Core Science StandardsProvide pre-program information for class training to prepare for programsEnsure safe practices for all education programs (preparation/planning)Research field locations for the delivery of programs, including Pine Barrens, salt marshes, beaches, rivers, etc.Coordinate special programs, including the Challenge course at Sunken Meadow Outdoor Learning Lab, Bay investigations, marine necropsy, beach ecology/geology, canoe trips, farm to dinner table, mariculture, insects, ornithology, Long Island history, etc.Coordinate in-school programs, including Earth Balloon, Star Lab, animal encounters, pond study, life cycles, etc.Assist in the development of a cadre of specialized consultants and casual employees to deliver programsPrepare contracts with specialized consultants and casual employeesPrepare and assist in the evaluation of specialized consultant and casual employee job performanceAssist in the assessment of the delivery of programs as meeting educational needsPrepare requisitions for supplies needed for special servicesTo work as a member of a team, including networking with colleagues, staff, volunteers, State Parks, BOCES, SCOPE, teachers, science coordinators and field trip sitesTo conduct other activities, such as, grant writing and curriculum developmentOther responsibilities as assigned by the Administrator of Outdoor Environmental Education
