QUALIFICATIONS: New York State certification in SDA or SLA and New York State Teacher certification in Childhood Education 1-6 and/or Common Branches Prek-6 Preferred background in elementary mathematics, science, and/or STEM Strong commitment to quality education for all students Sound knowledge of current research in pedagogy and substantive knowledge in content and standards in mathematics, science and technology Excellent communication skills Proficiency with technology Three years of successful teaching at the elementary level Prior administrative or supervisory experience desirable Strong vision of exemplary mathematics and science programming as well as the integration of subject areas Ability to travel between multiple buildings. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direct supervision of the Asst. Supt for Curriculum & Instruction and in collaboration with the Director of Elementary Teaching, Learning & Assessment, the Coordinator of STEM PreK-6 will: Coordinate the development, revision, and refinement of curriculum PreK-6 Be knowledgeable in the field and in legal requirements and disseminate the information to appropriate staff. Advise on all matters pertaining to textbooks, testing, grading, equipment, materials, and procedures. Evaluate student achievement and recommend changes designed to improve instructional effectiveness. Participate in the preparation and administration of budgets. Coordinate programs within and among schools Serve as a resource to elementary principals and teachers. Play a leading role in the hiring process for new teachers of mathematics and STEM. Perform other duties as assigned.
