White Plains White Plains Public Schools is seeking an HVAC Technician. This is a competitive title. Minimum Acceptable Training and Experience: Possession of a high school or equivalency diploma and three years of journey level HVAC experience in commercial or school facilities setting; and: Additional Requirements: Possession of U.S. Environmental Protection Administration Section 608 "Universal" Certification for handling and disposal of refrigerant Possession of a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State. General Statement of Duties: Performs Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) maintenance, repair, and alteration for school district facilities; and maintains automated building management and energy control systems; does related work as required. Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Attributes: - Thorough knowledge of the technical skills and standard tools used in the HVAC trade in the repair and maintenance of low-pressure HVAC systems with automated management and control systems - Knowledge of the accident and safety practices, precautions and procedures associated with trade. - General working knowledge of all the building trades; skill in the use of hand tools and of testing and measuring devices such as wet and dry bulb thermometers, manometers, anemometers, velometers, draft gauges, soldering irons, hand torches, leak detectors, multi-meters, etc. - Able to read and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, charts and technical instructions; ability to understand and carry out complex and detailed technical instructions involving the use of computer skills. Examples of Work: (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY) - Performs skilled maintenance, repair and alterations on the school district’s low pressure HVAC systems throughout its various facilities including the automated building and energy management systems. - Maintains, repairs and replaces air conditioning equipment of the reciprocating, centrifugal and absorption types, including related electrical motors (open and hermetic) and their respective controls, including calibration of equipment, gauges, and controls, handling of refrigerant, and refrigerant charging of systems. - Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with frequent exposure to dust, dirt, weather elements, mechanical. - Must assist with snow/ice removal, as needed. - Work is subject to – day, evening and weekend schedules; possible flexible hours, as needed; and response to needed emergency repairs. - Must be available to respond to after-hours’ emergency calls or urgent calls for Facilities & Operation services. - Completes work orders issued to the highest quality and expeditiously. - Maintains records of work performed, maintenance schedules, supplies, and costs. - Performs all other tasks assigned by management in response to the needs of the district.
