GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Provides for the care, prevention and treatment of athletic injuries and/or improves physical fitness of student athletes participating in various sports programs; does related work as required.Bilingual preferred; the ability to understand, to make oneself understood to all Spanish speaking individuals, as well as able to read and write Spanish proficientlyMINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:. Certification as an Athletic Trainer in accordance with Article 162 of the New York State Education Law.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Current certification in CPR for Professional Rescuer/AED; or EMT certification.EXAMPLES OF WORK: (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)Provides first aid and/or CPR in accordance with established standards and coordinates emergency transportation, as necessary;Conducts initial evaluation following an injury and makes a decision regarding management of the injury;Establishes and implements a program for the purpose of minimizing injuries which includes condition programs, judicious equipment selection, athletic activity safety checks, and determination of physical fitness for participation in intended activities;Provides student athletes, parents, coaches and school staff with information regarding sound health habits; injury care, and prevention practices; weight and pre-conditioning training;Assists the school physician and nurses in ensuring that all student athletes have been examined and pre-screened prior to sports participation;Maintains an inventory and determines the need for athletic training supplies, equipment and maintenance services;Prepares and maintains detailed records on student athletes including sports physicals and incident reports;
