The West Islip UFSD has an anticipated leave replacement opening for a School Social Worker – Elementary School.Certification Required: New York State School Social Worker Certification Job Overview:The School Social Worker promotes and enhances the mission of West Islip UFSD by providing the opportunities to develop self esteem and a respect for others to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes to become responsible citizens in an ever changing world. The successful candidate will advance the understanding of the emotional and social development of students, considering the significant influences of family, community, and cultural differences on student achievement. This role involves collaboration with all stakeholders to implement effective intervention strategies that promote positive school adjustment.Key Responsibilities and Experience:We are seeking a candidate with demonstrated experience in the following: Direct Student Services: Providing individual and small group counseling to address mental health and behavioral concerns, and effectively managing crisis intervention.Behavioral Support: Developing and implementing effective intervention strategies and positive behavioral supports to improve student behavior and increase academic success.Collaborative Practice: Working effectively within an interdisciplinary team and demonstrating knowledge of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.Family/Community Engagement: Providing appropriate referrals and collaborating with outside agencies to secure resources and support for students and families.Compliance and Regulations: Familiarity with the CSE (Committee on Special Education) and 504 processes, and working knowledge of McKinney-Vento (homeless education) and DASA (Dignity for All Students Act).School Culture: Supporting and promoting building-wide social-emotional learning (SEL) initiatives.Communication: Consistently and professionally communicating with parents, teachers, and other stakeholders.
