Academic, social, employment, and functional skills are taught to each student as driven by their Individual Educational Plan (IEP), needs, and interests.Who We Are Looking For: A Special Education teacher, who embraces our mission of “strengthening the well-being of people with disabilities and their families through innovative supports.” RequirementsEducation/Experience:Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent from a regionally accredited college or university preferred;OR Bachelors degree and at least four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experienceCertificates and Licenses:NYS Special Education Teachers Certification Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Contributes to and plans lessons in conjunction with the designated curriculum frameworkWorks as a part of an interdisciplinary team to meet each learner's individual needsCollaborates with parents, administrators, language therapists, social workers, behavior specialists and others to develop individual educational programs for students.Instructs students in all academic subjects.Trains, supports and supervises teaching assistants within the classroom and community settingConducts Functional Behavior Assessments and develops Behavior Support plans in conjunction with the Behavior Support TeamAnalyzes data and uses it to ensure growth of studentWorks with students to increase motivation, provides consistent reinforcement to learning, continuous assessment of level of functioning, and continuous feedback to student for all learningDirectly supervises up to 5 teaching assistants. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
