PERSONNEL BULLETIN FOR THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR: Director of Interscholastic Sports and Intramural Programs This is a new administrative position in the district to complement the current Director of Athletics, Health, and Physical Education.Position Description:To provide leadership, vision, and innovation for managing coordinating curriculum, instruction, and athletic opportunities for students in a K-12 level. Under the direction of the Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent for Personnel, the Director of Interscholastic Sports and Intramural Programs shall be responsible for providing leadership to the professional learning community for the implementation of the athletics and intramural programs. The broader educational and system goals focus on the performance by all students, creating innovation and equity in all aspects of athletics, and the development of leadership and human capital, and engage students, parents, and all community stakeholders. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Supervise the K-12 inter-scholastic sports and intramural programs in coordination with the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent for Personnel, and Principals.Recommend policies and procedures related to the athletic program.Development of an annual budget and its implementation.Implement interscholastic athletic schedules and officials’ schedules for all contests.Arrange transportation for all athletic contests.Coordinate support personnel for all athletic contests, including game management, ticket sales, security, athletic trainer, emergency personnel, and emergency apparatus.Supervise and evaluate physical education teachers, health teachers, and interscholastic coaches.Coordinate family engagement to promote athletic and intramural programs and help to enhance the student-athlete experience.Engage coaches, scholar-athletes, families, and referees in the performance and effective management of the athletic program.Ensure that all aspects of the interscholastic athletic program comply with the Rules and Regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education, the State Athletic Association, Section VIII, and the Westbury Union Free School District.In conjunction with the Facilities Department, identify locations for new sports and intramural programs.Investigate opportunities to create equity in the inter-scholastic athletic program in compliance with Title IX.Ensure high levels of performance for all physical education teachers, health teachers, and inter-scholastic athletic coaches in the district.Engage institutions of higher education and form partnerships with their athletic departments to provide scholarship opportunities to the scholar-athletes of the Westbury UFSDAll other responsibilities assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and the Assistant Superintendent for Personnel. Requirements for the Position:New York State District Leader Certification/New York State School District Administrator Certification, required.New York State Physical Education Permanent or Professional Teaching Certification, required, required.New York State Health Permanent or Professional Teaching Certification required preferred.Doctorate preferred.At least five years of successful teaching experience in physical education and/or health in a K-12 public or private school district.At least five years of successful experience in athletics, physical education, and health leadership in an educational setting.Experience in coaching interscholastic sports at the varsity, junior varsity, and/or middle school level.Extensive knowledge of the principles of Section VIII interscholastic sports program.Demonstrated leadership and management abilities, along with excellent communication/public relations skills.Ability to articulate a vision of innovation for athletic programs, experience with creating equity in athletics programs, ensure Title IX compliance, and demonstrated leadership ability to work with diverse groups.CPR/First Aid/AED Certification.
