Proven ability to work effectively with students, staff and parents; good human relations and supervisory skills Proficient in educational and administrative technology, K-12 PE and health curriculum as well as interscholastic athletics Candidates with experience with staff supervision and knowledge of APPR regulations will be given preference Great communication and organizational skills Diverse candidates are encouraged to applyFUNCTIONS:The Interim Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics has direct responsibility for the District’s health, physical education and athletic programs including curriculum and instruction, staff supervision and evaluation, staff selection, athletic facilities management, budget preparation and student, parent and community relations. The Director reports to both the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for PE and Health and Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources for athletics. Listed below and other essential responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent and/or the Assistant Superintendents: Providing leadership and coordination of the health and physical education curricular and instructional programs for the school district Meeting with principals and teachers to develop and implement curriculum in the areas of health, physical education, and lifelong learning Working with the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction on physical education issues and health topics Assisting in the acquisition of textbooks, instructional materials, teacher guides, athletics, health, physical education equipment and medical equipment Oversee and coordinate the athletic programs in accordance to Section XI and school district policies Implement, coordinate and evaluate a K-12 Health and Physical Education instructional program with high standards for all students and faculty Supervise and evaluate nurses (SNT’s and RN’s), health teachers and physical education teachers Coordinate and finalize reports for the NYS Dept. of Health Commerce System Communicate standing orders and other districtwide directives from the Chief Medical Officer Implement all school district policies relating to PE, Health and Athletics Communicate regularly with building nurses, building administrators, Director of Student Services and central administration. Assist in the scheduling and assignment of nurses, health and physical education staff Provide ongoing professional development of health, physical education and interscholastic athletics staff Oversee the organization and development of a comprehensive intramural program at all levels Organize, supervise and evaluate all aspects of interscholastic athletics including the recruitment, supervision and evaluation of staff Ensure that all staff involved in health, physical education and interscholastic athletics meet the standards of and requirements of the District, the New York State Education Department and other agencies Manage the athletic facilities and equipment to provide maximum utilization, distribution and safety of all student athletes Develop and manage the annual budget requirements for the District’s health, physical education and interscholastic athletics programs Provide for ongoing public relations and communication with staff, parents, students, the media and the general public Provide for district representation in all Section XI and other league meetings Assist in the coordination of the District’s Health and Wellness Fair Serve as a member of the District’s Wellness Committee, Safety Committee, SMC, SMT and SQRC Competitive Salary & Benefits Qualified candidates should submit a letter of interest and an updated resume online at: www.olasjobs.org/longisland by May 26, 2023 to: Mr. Shawn Hanley, Assistant Superintendent for Human ResourcesWest Babylon Schools10 Farmingdale RoadWest Babylon, NY 11704
