WEST BABYLON SCHOOLSANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCIES2025-2026TEACHING ASSISTANT - Special EducationSecondary LevelNew PositionThe Special Education Teacher’s Assistant will support students with disabilities in academic, social, and behavioral areas under the direction of the classroom teacher and/or special education teacher. The assistant will help implement individualized education plans (IEPs), support classroom instruction, and foster a safe and inclusive learning environment. QUALIFICATIONS- NYS Certifications: Teaching Assistant Certification or Teacher Certification required (Student with Disabilities preferred)- Experience working with children, preferably in a school or special education setting- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team- Strong communication, patience, and problem-solving skills- Willingness to receive training related to student needs (behavioral supports, de-escalation, medical procedures, etc.)- Desire and knowledge to balance students’ social/emotional and academic/intellectual needs- Desire and ability to work collaboratively with an academic/special education team- Knowledge of behavioral strategies within the special education settingFUNCTIONS- Provide instructional support to students individually and in small groups- Assist in implementing accommodations, modifications, and behavior management strategies- Support students with personal care needs, if required (toileting, feeding, mobility, etc.)- Monitor and document student progress as directed by the teacher- Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, transportation and other activities- Maintain a positive, respectful, and supportive learning environment- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and support staff to meet student needs- Perform other duties as assigned- Demonstrate commitment to professional growth- Model for students an interest in life-long learning in subject area and general knowledge- Support school-wide activities through chaperoning, involvement with student activities and/or coaching- To communicate regularly with students’ support staff and parents.If interested, please respond online at www.olasjobs.org/ no later than September 12, 2025.
