WEST BABYLON SCHOOLSANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT 2023-2024SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION SUPERVISOR Provisional Appointment Minimum Qualifications: Provisional Appointment contingent upon being reachable on the Suffolk County Civil Service List of Eligibles for School Transportation Supervisor once the exam is offered and established ORRequest a transfer from a position of the same titlePossess a valid clean license issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles: CDL 'B' with P and S Endorsements preferred, but not requiredGraduation from a NYS or Regionally accredited college or university with an Associates Degree, and two (2) years of management experience in the operation, scheduling and maintenance of a bus transportation system; OR Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and four (4) years of management experience in the operation, scheduling and maintenance of a bus transportation system Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Comprehensive knowledge of the operation, maintenance and inspection practices, procedures, and policies governing school transportation programs; comprehensive knowledge of the geography of the school district and state laws and safety regulations covering the operation of school buses; thorough knowledge of the maintenance and preparation of accurate transportation reports and records; good knowledge of effective supervisory techniques; skill in the operation of school buses; ability to plan, assign and supervise a substantial number of employees performing various maintenance and operational functions in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, students, school officials and other persons associated with the school transportation program; ability to prepare a variety of written reports and to maintain accurate records; good verbal and written communication skills; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands and duties of the position. Functions:Plans, assigns, coordinates and directs the work of bus drivers, mechanics and other transportation employees in the school transportation program; prepares and maintains a district transportation map and plans all school bus routes, loading/unloading areas and driver schedules; may use computerized scheduling techniques; assigns the cleaning, servicing and minor repair of buses and other equipment; plans and assigns major repair, replacement and rebuilding of bus engines, transmissions, hydraulic and electrical systems in the school garage or outside garages; prepares personnel, budget, maintenance and state inspection reports and records; makes out requisitions and specification for all transportation equipment, parts and supplies; advises on present and future transportation needs and costs; processes complaints and special requests from parents, students and school officials; insures that district transportation personnel as well as outside contractors perform under the same rules and regulations and in accordance with their contracts.
