The Warwick Valley Central School District (WVCSD) is seeking an interested candidate to fill an anticipated probationary Director of Special Education position to serve beginning as soon as possible. The WVCSD serves approximately 3700 students in grades K-12, employing approximately 290 teachers, 300 support staff and 16 administrators. The District’s mission is to provide all students with the necessary skills to thrive in the 21st Century as learners, workers and citizens. The WVCSD is comprised of four schools, including two K-4 elementary schools, a middle school (grades 5-8) and high school (grades 9-12). The WVCSD’s elementary schools are both recipients of the National Blue Ribbon Schools Award, the Middle School & Sanfordville Elementary have been named 2019 US Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools and the High School was designated a Reward School by the New York State Education Department. Warwick is an historic town located 55 miles north of New York City in Orange County, New York. The Director of Special Education will collaborate with building administrators in the supervision and evaluation of Special Education Teachers; Assures compliance with federal and state regulations; Works collaboratively with the Director of Pupil Personnel in coordinating the curriculum and instruction of Special Education programs.CHARACTERISTICS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:Implements the CPSE/CSE process, chairing CPSE/CSE meetings and collaborating with administrators and teaching staff as needed; ensures IEP's are implemented.Reviews, and coordinates applicable outside placements for the school district.Ensures that student records are maintained and secured to ensure accurate information, reporting capabilities, and confidentiality in accordance with applicable laws.Collaborates with the District on the assignment of students into special education sections.Recommends components of behavioral management plans to administrative and teaching staff consistent with the needs of special needs students.Coordinates special education services with other pupil services.Promotes a school environment conducive to individualized instruction, cooperative curriculum development, and student learning.Meets with students, parents, and related school personnel regarding student needsAssists with special service transportation issues.Keeps abreast of developments in the fields of special education, student assessment, and school mental health programs.Coordinates and attends meetings with district staff and parents.Conducts professional development as needed to fulfill responsibilities.The ideal applicant MUST have the NYS SDL/SDA Certification required for the position and must apply online at olasjobs.org.
