The Valley Stream CHSD, a beautifully diverse school community, is currently seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Probationary Special Education teacher. The successful candidate must possess valid NYS certification. Additional responsibilities and qualifications include the following: Develop and implement lesson plans and materials that support the District’s special education students and aligned with the goals and expectations of the district’s instructional programs. Adapt curriculum and teaching methods to address unique learning, social-emotional, cognitive and/or physical needs of students. Design assessments that address students IEP needs and provide feedback for students, parents, and staff related to students’ academic performance. Collaborate with colleagues to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Utilize various instructional strategies including small groups, use of adaptive technology, and one-to-one instructional support. Evaluate and monitor students’ strengths and challenges to determine educational needs and to address diverse learning styles. Demonstrate compassion for students with diverse needs. Maintain open lines of communication for students, parents, faculty, and administration. Possess strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple students’ needs at one time. Maintain student confidentiality and monitor student records/files. Salary : Compensation is at the discretion of the Superintendent of Schools, and in accordance with the negotiated contracts between the Valley Stream CHSD and the Valley Stream Teachers’ Association (VSTA).
