Bouton High School Voorheesville, New York 12186 Notice of Vacancy School Security Monitor The Voorheesville Central School District has an opening for a School Security Monitor at the MS/HS campus. The work involves responsibility for patrolling halls, corridors, lavatories, buildings and grounds to protect persons and property and to enforce school rules. The position is intended to provide maximum security of persons and property while maintaining an atmosphere throughout the school that is conducive to the educational program. The successful candidate will establish rapport with students in order to assist them with their problems or refer them to someone on the professional staff who can help. The work is performed under the general direction of the school principal/assistant principal with leeway allowed for exercise of independent judgment in carrying out assignments. Does related work as required. This is a full-time (8 hours/day), 10-month position. Anticipated salary range is $21.01-$24.75 per hour, depending on experience. Benefits are included. Typical Work Activities and Expectations of School Security Monitor:Assist in the supervision of bus-loading areas during student arrivals and dismissals.Inspect the buildings and grounds and enforce building protocols per safety plans.Patrol school halls, stairwells, lavatories, courtyards, entrances, parking lots and other parts of school buildings and grounds to protect persons and property, maintain order and insure compliance with school rules/policies.;Be observant of the potential safety hazards in the buildings and grounds and report any to administration immediately. Question persons on school premises who are not students or staff. Monitor visitors in the schools, and when observed, assure that each has a visitor pass and a specific destination. If not the monitor will direct/escort the visitor to the main office. Patrol the school hallways to enforce school policies related to punctuality to classes, attendance in classes and general hallway behavior. Escort students to various locations as appropriate and/or directed by administration. Conduct periodic inspections of locker rooms, bathrooms, media center and other areas in an effort to reduce vandalism, class cutting and student smoking/vaping. Report daily to the Principal or Assistant Principal about potential or actual student problems concerning class cutting, truancy, smoking/vaping, vandalism or disciplinary incidents occurring within the building. Interact with students in such a way as to prevent and/or de-escalate potentially violent incidents.Assist the administration, when appropriate, in investigation of various disciplinary incidents occurring within the building. Maintain a daily log and complete an incident report when necessary.Be present during lunch periods in the cafeteria as directed. Participate in the development and implementation of district security plans.Attend school activities both on and off campus, as directed, and assist faculty with supervision.Be an active member of both the District Wide and Building level Safety Committee. Perform other duties as assigned Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics and Key Qualities of School Security Monitor:• Working knowledge of middle and high school age children;• Ability to perform the actions necessary to maintain order and insure the protection of persons and security of the school building;• Ability to exercise sound judgment in carrying out supervision and security duties;• Ability to relate to, get along with and command the respect of young adults;• Ability to understand and carry out written or oral directions;• Ability to articulate the problems and concerns of students to the school administration;• Concern for the welfare of young adults;• Good skills of observation and ability to analyze situations;• Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. Education and Experience required:High school diploma or equivalency; One (1) year experience in working with student-aged individuals in youth service work, recreation, education or any other activity involving service to youth. Experience with law enforcement or school security is preferred. Special Requirements: A valid NYS Driver's License must be presented at the time of appointment and maintained during employment.
