VOORHEESVILLE CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICTVoorheesville, New York 12186 Notice of Vacancy Title: Director of Facilities II Salary: $65,000 - $80,000 Position Goal: Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent for Business and Finance, the Director of Facilities II is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the operation, maintenance and repair activities of the Voorheesville Central School District’s facilities department. Note: This is an open-competitive class position within the Albany County Department of Civil Service. As such, candidates for appointment must be reachable (among the top three successful candidates) on the current eligible list established for this position. Qualifications: An Associate’s or higher-level degree in School Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering Technology, Building Construc5tion Technology or Architectural Technology and four years of experience in school facilities maintenance, general building construction, building maintenance or repair work, or construction management, one year of which must have at a supervisory level; orSix years of experience in school facilities maintenance, general building construction, building maintenance or repair work, or construction management, one year of which must have been at a supervisory level.Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license and certificates appropriate to the vehicles, equipment and/or machinery operated at the time of appointment or during the course of employment consistent with the needs of the district. Performance Characteristics: Knowledge of applicable codes, laws, rules and regulations governing school buildings and grounds administration.Knowledge of buildings and grounds maintenance and repair practices and procedures.Knowledge of safety precautions and practices associated with buildings and grounds maintenance and repair work.Ability to plan, direct and supervise a program of building and grounds.Working knowledge of the principles and practices of administrative supervision.Knowledge of budgeting practices and procedures.Ability to organize, prepare and maintain accurate records and files.Ability to effectively, efficiently and safely use tools and operate equipment related to building and grounds maintenance and repair.Ability to inspect the work of building tradespersons and contractors to ensure compliance with contract specifications, applicable codes and regulations.10. (Continued) Notice of Vacancy – Director of Facilities II Duties of the Position (include but are not limited to): Schedule inspections and complete reports for federal, state and local regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with codes, rule and regulations.Supervise staff responsible for daily preventive maintenance and custodial activities.Manage, develop and schedule a preventive maintenance program designed to retain buildings, ground and equipment in a safe operating condition.Inspects and oversees work performed by private contractors, custodial or maintenance employees to ensure work complies with contract specifications, applicable codes and regulations.Supervise the in-service training of custodial and maintenance employees.Discusses capital projects, maintenance, repair and operational needs with school administrators.Review the school district’s expenditures from the prior year and assists the administration with the budget process by forecasting and planning for the upcoming budget.Monitor expenses to ensure established budgetary limits are not exceeded.Recommend purchase of materials and supplies and develop and direct the maintenance of inventory control system.10. Review decisions made by lower-level supervisory staff regarding work schedules, vacation requests, personal and sick leave requests to ensure compliance with district policies and procedures.11. Maintain records and prepare reports related to operations and the work performed, and schedule repairs when necessary.12. Recommend staffing to administrators, including the interviewing, hiring, evaluating and disciplining departmental personnel.13. Manage and, when necessary, perform preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment, including plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems.14. Troubleshoot problems with equipment, including HVAC and electrical systems, and, if necessary, contact contractor to perform repairs when a non-routine issue is identified.15. Oversee and/or perform inspections on and test security systems, safety lighting, fire extinguishers, fire alarm system, doors, and eyewash stations to ensure proper operation and compliance with applicable codes and regulations.16. Ensures removal of snow and ice from sidewalks and roadways.17. Responds to inquiries from employees, school district administrators and the public regarding school district buildings and grounds activities.18. Oversee swimming pool maintenance.19. Work with constructions managers, architects and/or engineers to develop, implement and complete capital improvement projects and other long-term plans.20. May use a variety of tools and operate a variety of motor and other equipment related to building and grounds maintenance and repair, including snow blowers, lawn mowers, tractors, plow trucks, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, drills, reciprocating saws, screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, hammers and plungers.
