Qualified candidates will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of the comprehensive school counseling program.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Define and focus the comprehensive school counseling program in response to the needs of students based on the schools’ academic, attendance, and behavioral data. Communicate the goals of the comprehensive school counseling program to all stakeholders.Counsel students individually or in groups regarding peer/parent relationships, personal problem solving, communication skills, and appropriate social behavior.Provide supportive counseling for students at high risk to develop adjustment problems, e.g., families in crisis, families undergoing separation or divorce, and single-parent families.Consult and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs.Identify student needs through data collection and analysis and in consultation with school administrators, teachers, and other school staff to enhance program development.Accurately and appropriately use assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling services.Deliver the school counseling core curriculum via classroom instruction with reinforcements delivered through small group instruction and/or individual instruction towards high student achievement.Facilitate crisis response to assist students with a variety of social-emotional and mental health concerns and make appropriate referrals to outside mental health providers when necessary.Teach developmentally appropriate lessons, deliver group activities to promote an academic, career, or social/emotional development in partnership with teaching staff.Cooperate with classroom teachers to facilitate student social/emotional growth through activities in the classroom, which foster understanding of self and others, development of friendships, interpersonal relationships, and decision-making skills.Conduct student and parent workshops and/or presentations on a variety of academic, social-emotional, and career topics.Orient parents toward resources available to them, both within and outside the school system, and serves as a resource person to parents and staff on the growth and development of children.Implement an effective referral and follow-up process as needed.Participate in a variety of professional learning opportunities to include meetings, workshops, and committees related to performing school counseling functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession.Participate as a member of the Instructional Support Team.Provide orientations for new students.Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:Teaching experience preferred.School counseling experience preferred.Bilingual preferred.NYS School Counselor Certification
