SENIOR ACCOUNT CLERKThe Valley Central School District is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Senior Account Clerk in the Business Office. This is a full-time, competitive civil service position.POSITION SUMMARYUnder the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent for Business, the Senior Account Clerk performs varied and complex clerical work in connection with account-keeping and the financial accounting process for the school district. This position requires a general understanding of school district financial operations, accounting principles, and established procedures and policies.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESClassifies receipts and expenditures and distributes items according to established proceduresReviews and verifies account-keeping records and reports for accuracy and completenessVerifies and reconciles account balances according to prescribed proceduresProcesses remittances, verifies amounts, computes interest and penalties, and prepares bank depositsIssues receipts and confirmations for monies receivedPosts transactions from various source documents and prepares routine financial reportsCompiles and prepares cost records and reports for labor, materials, and operationsPrepares and distributes checks according to established proceduresProcesses, sorts, records, and files control records and reportsOperates computing, calculating, check writing, and other standard office equipmentPrepares routine correspondence on matters where policies and procedures are clearly definedMay assist with payroll processing including verifications and computationsMay assist in budget preparation and maintenance of budget controlsMay assign and review work of clerical staff and provide training on account-keeping tasksPerforms related clerical duties including typing, filing, and general office work as neededMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or equivalency diplomaTwo (2) years of clerical experience involving the maintenance or auditing of financial accounts or recordsREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESGood knowledge of financial accounting and record-keeping practicesGood knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipmentGood knowledge of business arithmetic and EnglishGood knowledge of word processing and basic spreadsheet programsAbility to maintain accurate financial accountsAbility to follow complex oral and written directionsAbility to prepare correspondence and reportsAbility to operate computerized account-keeping systemsAbility to organize and prioritize varied assignmentsAbility to lead and direct the work of othersStrong clerical aptitude and initiativeGood judgment and attention to detailPhysical condition appropriate to the demands of the positionCIVIL SERVICE REQUIREMENTSThis is a competitive class position (Title #1578). Candidates may also be eligible under the NYHELPS program or be eligible to transfer under civil service law.SALARY AND BENEFITSSalary commensurate with experience.
