The District Treasurer is a highly important position responsible for the accounting of fiscal operations of the school district. The Treasurer serves as the district's lead accountant, provides day-to-day operational oversight of payroll, accounts payable, and treasury functions, and acts as custodian of all district funds with check signing authority.The District Treasurer is a full time position, 12 months per year, 40 hours per week. This position is in the Civil Service Exempt Class.Reports to: Assistant Superintendent for BusinessTYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIESTreasury and Cash Management:Performs bank transfers, Automated Clearing House (ACH) transactions, wire transfers, etc.Acts as custodian of all money belonging to the School District and lawfully deposits these money in the depositories designated by the Board of Education.Utilizes web-based banking sites to monitor cash movement, enter positive pay files, etc.Executes legal signature on all district checksCommunicates with financial institutions for all financial transactionsReviews and establishes debt service paymentsAccounting and Reporting:Processes budget amendments and transfersRecords journal entries and tracks revenuesReconciles bank statementsPrepares monthly Treasurer's Reports to the Board of EducationRemits federal and NYS employee withholding taxes and sales taxPrepares quarterly wage reports (Forms 941, NYS-45, IT-2104, etc.)Reviews W-2 and 1099 forms and submits to IRSOther Duties:Preparation of annual financial statements and state reporting (ST-3)Coordinates capital construction project accountingProcesses grant financial reports and State Aid claimsCoordinates with internal and external auditorsAssists and supports payroll and accounts payable functionsPerforms a variety of related tasks as required by the Superintendent of Schools or the Assistant Superintendent for Business and Operations.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. CPA certificationProfessional accounting experience, preferably in governmental or school district / BOCES accountingStrong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting standardsProficiency in accounting software, experience with WinCap softwareExperience with New York State school district accounting and reporting requirementsStrong organizational and planning skillsStrong interpersonal and communication skillsAPPLICATION PROCEDURECompensation: $90,000-$125,000 Commensurate with experience and qualificationsTentative Start Date: To be determined, no earlier than April 1, 2026 and no later than June 1, 2026 Applications will be collected until the position is filled.
