General Fund)The Valley Stream #30 district offers a rigorous 21st Century Learning and Culturally Responsive-sustaining curriculum aligned to the New York State Department of Education with a focus on differentiated instruction, enrichment opportunities, as well as Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). The successful candidate will be an active member of a multidisciplinary team, and become a liaison between the home and educational environment. The Social Worker will report directly to the Director of Special Services. Starting date: ImmediatelyQualifications:NYS Certification School Social WorkerExperience working with Special Education Classes and Social Emotional Programs (required)Prior Experience as an Elementary School Social Worker (required)Bilingual (Urdu/Spanish) preferred Requirements:Monitors and implements universal, classroom-based screening to identify students’ needs for additional support. Develops a collaborative, team-based approach to implement and evaluate alternative interventions for social emotional needs Assists in developing a positive environment within classrooms and programs to promote positive and cooperative working relationships. Evaluates and re-evaluates short term behavioral and academic objectives on a regular basis throughout the school year for students with on-going behavior plans. Develops and maintains communication with the students’ teachers and school team, conducts family outreach, community referrals/resources. Attends student support meetings as needed, including CSE meetings, Educational MeetingsEvaluates special education referrals for social emotional support service. Refers as necessary to Mental Health Services outside of the school environment. Develops solution-focused outcomes for social, emotional, behavioral, and academic issues as they arise. Conducts parent training/student counseling, daily classroom support and consultation, co-lead support groups/workshops and social skills groupsMaintains files on students; documentation should include time spent and general content of session and progress. Assists with de-escalation and behavior support in the building as needed. Experience in positive behavior management, sensory integration, working with children who have social/emotional delays, behavioral issues, and autism.Investigates DASA and Bullying building level complaintsLead parent workshops, informational sessions, which can be done at different times throughout the day.
