Uniondale Union Free School District Civil Service Title: Assistant Supervisor of Transportation Appointment: Provisional, pending Nassau County Civil Service requirements 12-Month Position The Uniondale Union Free School District is seeking a highly organized, dependable, and experienced professional to serve as Assistant Supervisor of Transportation. The successful candidate will assist in the coordination and supervision of the District's comprehensive student transportation program, with a strong emphasis on student safety, operational efficiency, customer service, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Responsibilities The Assistant Supervisor of Transportation will assist with all phases of the District's transportation operation, including: Coordinating and supervising the daily operation of student transportation services; Assisting with the supervision of transportation personnel and contracted transportation providers; Developing, reviewing, and adjusting bus routes, schedules, stops, and assignments; Monitoring transportation operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of students; Assisting with the inspection and monitoring of District-owned and contracted vehicles for safety and compliance; Responding to and resolving transportation concerns from parents, schools, staff, and transportation providers; Assisting with the investigation and resolution of transportation accidents, incidents, and complaints; Coordinating transportation for field trips, athletic events, special education programs, and other District activities; Assisting with required transportation reports and records for the District and applicable New York State agencies; Assisting with transportation contracts, specifications, bids, invoices, purchases, and budget preparation; Supporting the implementation of Board of Education policies and applicable federal, state, and local transportation requirements; Assisting with transportation staff training and student bus-safety programs; and Performing other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Transportation and/or District administration. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must meet the requirements established by the Nassau County Civil Service Commission for the title of Assistant Supervisor of Transportation, including: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, AND One (1) year of satisfactory experience dispatching vehicles, preparing time schedules, and laying out routes for transportation. Satisfactory paid experience operating automotive equipment may be substituted for the required year of experience, consistent with Nassau County Civil Service requirements. Additional Requirements The successful candidate should possess: Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills; Ability to work effectively with parents, students, administrators, staff, transportation contractors, and outside agencies; Knowledge of school transportation operations, routing, scheduling, and student safety practices; Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; Strong computer and technology skills, including the ability to work with transportation routing and student information systems; and A demonstrated commitment to providing safe, reliable, efficient, and student-centered transportation services. Where operation of a school bus is required, the employee must possess the appropriate New York State driver's license and satisfy applicable requirements of Article 19-A of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. Appointment is subject to all applicable Nassau County Civil Service requirements, fingerprint clearance, and Board of Education approval.
