School District ClerkThis is an exempt clerical position requiring a proven ability to understand and interpret complex written and verbal instructions; exhibit an exceptional level of professionalism; with meticulous attention to detail.Distinguishing Features of the Class: The incumbent in this class performs the duties of a School District Clerk as specified in Section 2503 of the New York State Education Law and serves as the Clerk to the Board of Education. The School District Clerk is appointed by the Board of Education and serves at the pleasure of the Board. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Superintendent of Schools with considerable leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in the performance of routine daily functions of the office. Does related work as required.Minimum Requirements:Any combination of graduation from a business school, college or university; or degree in Secretarial Science or Office Administration and four years of clerical/administrative experienceGood knowledge of modern business and public administrative procedures and practicesExperience in the areas of organization, planning, office management, as well as internal/external communicationsFamiliarity with the laws, regulations, practices and policies of the New York State Education DepartmentAbility to handle administrative details independentlyIn-depth technological and computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word and ExcelAbility to promote and maintain effective public relations; accuracy; resourcefulness; initiative; neat personal appearanceMajor Responsibilities:Prepare the agenda and all related materials for all Board of Education meetingsRecord the minutes of each Board meetingHandle Freedom of Information requestsPrepare for and manage the annual School Budget vote and School Board electionManage requests and inquiries made to the Board of EducationAdditional duties as determined by the Board of Education Annual appointment: 12-month, 35 hour work week. All overtime, vacations, and deviations from the normal work week will be approved by the Superintendent.Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
