The Substitute Special Education Teacher is responsible to see that each child’s IEP is carried out, take part in interdisciplinary team meetings, oversee class room aides and assistants, compile reports and statistics, maintain supplies and participate in Agency activities.Benefits:Medical, Dental and VisonFlexible Spending Account (FSA)403B: Dollar for dollar retirement matchSTD, LTD, Life and AD&DEmployee Discounts: Local and National Employee Assistant Program (EAP)Tuition Reimbursement Professional Development Generous PTO Plans (Sick, Vacation and Leave)Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following· Plan, coordinate and implement the educational program for each child (IEP).· Function as a contributing member of each child’s interdisciplinary team and represent the team at CSE meetings, as required.· Effectively oversee teacher aides, interns, students and volunteers on all activities for program success.· Compile all reports and statistics/complete all documentation as required by Upstate Cerebral Palsy, NYS Education Department, funding and referral agencies and others as may be required, including but not limited to daily student attendance, lesson plans, goal documentation, quarterly progress reports and/or annual reviews.· Order supplies and equipment.· Participate in activities as part of the treatment team that may include meetings, trainings and committees.· Establish a work environment that creates positive communication between supervisors and employees and assimilates new employees to the Agency’s culture, values and mission.· Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and agency regulations and operating standards.· Create/maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.· Those working in the school age program (Traidwinds), must be able to complete and maintain SCIP-R, First Aid, and CPR certification.QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCESubstitute Teachers in NYS must meet one of the three following criteria:· (1) Substitutes with valid teaching certificates or certificates of qualification. Service may be rendered in any capacity, for any number of days. If employed on more than an itinerant basis, such persons will be employed in an area for which they are certified.· (2) Substitutes without a valid certificate, but who are completing collegiate study toward certification at the rate of not less than six semester hours per year. Service may be rendered in any capacity, for any number of days, in any number of school districts. If employed on more than an itinerant basis, such persons will be employed in the area for which they are seeking certification.· (3) Substitutes without a valid certificate and who are not working towards certification. In this case, please consult with the Credentialing Department.· Initial TB test required prior to first day of employment· Basic Computer Skills (Windows, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Word, Excel)· This position does have regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with individuals receiving services and is required by law to be fingerprinted for a criminal history record check under OPWDD (Office of People with Developmental Disabilities).· Must have a valid NYS Driver’s License.· Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances are warranted
